The other day in the Rochester paper, they had a comment from a fan comparing the '03 team versus 11-12 team they had something like this: Melo vs Joseph; edge to Anthony, Melo II over Forth by far, the combination of Jardine/Triche/Waiters way over GMac/Duany/Pace and said the Fair is already better than Warrick. Now I am never a fan of making these types of comparisons but I wonder what you all think? Personally I think Carmello alone puts the 03 team ahead and until Fair whom I like a lot runs from the lane to the 3 pt line to block a last second shot, I ain't putting him ahead of Warrick.

Hak was 1st team AA as a senior, and very very good as a soph.

CJ and Hak are comparable as sophs for sure. Splitting hairs, imo. CJ more well rounded and tougher.

Hak was a stud by the end of that season. I love CJ but cant see that.

Agree. Are people forgetting how good hak was? Final 4 game against texas who did we get the ball to our first few possessions and who buried a couple of fadeaways? It wasnt melo

Unfair comparison. The '03 team is frozen in time as national champions. The '12 team has played 20 games worth of a season. A nice 20 games...but this team hasn't won anything yet. They're a work in progress. If they lose 2 of their next 3 or 3 of their last seven all these types of threads will stop...unless they're still playing in April.

BTW how was your first Dome experience vs. Pitt?

Melo far greater than KrisJo, and I like KrisJo but there is just no comparison. One guy was the best player in the country the other guy is good four year forward that might get drafted.

The combination of Jardine/Triche/Waiters over GMac/Duany/Pace and said the Fair is already better than Warrick.

Ummm...you are forgetting the best point guard on either team...and one of the main reasons '03 won the NC. Yeah, I said it.

completely agree. Don't see a Hak equivalent on this team
CJ performs a similar role but, other than both being left-handed, their games are nothing alike. CJ is much bigger and a far better athlete than JP.

Melo could score at will. See Texas game in FF. KJo a great senior player, but no #3 pick in the NBA.

Whoa, I agree that Andrew Kouwe was a solid player, but let's not get ridiculous.

Hak over cj. Cj doesn't have nearly the post moves..yet. McNeil also a backup defensive force. Edelin pure point who IMO ppl under value.

Now I am never a fan of making these types of comparisons but I wonder what you all think? These comparisons are silly (not your post, but the person writing the paper)...

-By the end of the year, Melo was a man amongst boys, there's no where to even start with a comparison. He played 37 mins a game or so at the end, was a double double machine. We needed a hoop, throw him the ball. If he missed, he went and took the rebound from everyone. We needed a board, he took it from whomever. He is worth three of our guys, esp. guys playing 20 mins a game.

In a game where there are only 200 total mins, a guy like Melo, playing 35-40 of them, changes the game like no other, and we cannot compare anyone in 2012, any where in all of college ball.

-By the end of the year, Billy E was playing great ball. Without him, we don't win Ok St. So, that's a major oversight. When he was on, he got to the rim at will.

-Fair better than Warrick is terribly funny. Hak is one of my fav's and by the end of the soph year, he was a dominate inside guy. He could be counted on to toss the ball inside and score. I like CJ a lot, but CJ is no Hak right now. I think people forget how good Hak was and it started by the end of his soph year.

i wont make opinion based on player but over all team

both of these teams have a mental toughness and enjoy defense to get the offense going-

anyone notice how jimmy is using time outs this year? seems like he has used maybe 2 so far this season in the first half-
that tells me he has a disciplined team a smart team-just like 03

CJ is Josh Pace.

Outside of number, both being lefty's, and wearing a headband - does their games have anything else in common?

  • Pace was a penetrator. CJ, eh.. not so much. Its not that he can't do it - but his dunk on Mon was more Hak than it was Pace. I dont really consider that true penetration.
  • CJ can shoot, pace - not at all. his range was about 8 feet.
  • CJ is a rebounding machine - pace was alright
  • CJ and pace athletically are 2 different planets IMO
  • Pace got the ball outside the 3 point line, CJ usually inside the paint

I think the '03 team had superior talent in comparison to this season's crew. But, I think this team is a better team. Our defense is pretty solid all around, we are unselfish this season which is why its a favorite question of mine as to who will lead the team in points tonight? This team lacks the rebounders '03 had, but this teams fast break is better. This team seems to be a bit more streaky behind the ark than '03. So I say if '11-'12 were to be on from beyond the arc they would beat '03.

Josh Pace's floating runner from the foul line.

To me, CJ is Josh Pace 2.0, and we don't win that national title without Josh Pace becoming a good role player down the stretch. And I think CJ will too this year, even moreso than he is now.

Maybe Christmas eventually but that would be asking for a miracle this year. Sad part is I think we're gonna need him against super athletic teams.

CJ is Josh Pace.

CJ is better and more dynamic than Josh Pace.

But CJ is not Hak...

Actually, this team would be unstoppable with Hak - an athletic big with excellent footwork and back-to-basket finishing game...

We don't really have anyone like that. Fab and BMK have no footwork or back-to-basket game...

Fair has some, but it's not his strength...He'd much rather drive and pop an 8 foot jumper (as he should).

Would be good if one of the centers started to show something more than 'catch-and-dunk' ability on O...

If the centers finished every time the ball got down low I'd do cartwheels.
