It's time for the 10th Annual Iggy Awards. Yes, I know. It's hard to believe. Ten Years. Lots of Memories. Five Sweet Sixteens. Three Elite Eights. Two Final Fours. How many of you predicted that to happen.

The first season we made picks was 2008-09. Everyone remembers that season fondly. We beat Florida, Kansas and Memphis in non league games. We lost to Cleveland State. We beat Yukon in Six Overtimes! We held James Harden to ten points, all in the second half and then we found out who Blake Griffin was in the Sweet Sixteen. Our Assistant Coaches were Bernie Fine, Mike Hopkins and Rob Murphy. Our Director of Basketball Operations was Stan Kissel. I'm not sure who won the Iggy's that season but overall we had a better season than many expected.

So a lot has transpired since then. However there is one constant and James Arthur Boeheim is still the Head Coach of the Syracuse Orangemen.

So let's fast forward to 2017-2018. Lots of new guys. Not a particularly deep bench. Definitely a lot of questions. How good will Sophomore Tyus Battle be. How much will we miss Taurean Thompson. Which of the new guys will possibly step up to lead in one of the Iggy categories. Will we have any big wins like last season vs Duke and Virginia. Could this be the first team under JAB to finish under .500. Could JAB pull that surprise team out of a hat that finds itself dancing next March.

Our categories remain the same as last year. Hopefully we are a lot smarter than we were last year and are able to award winners in every category. Something we were unable to do last year. However some people did have some foresight so we were honored to award them the prestigious Iggys (see last years winners down below).
Here are our categories. Selections need to be posted by 4 pm of our first regular season game (Friday, November 10th vs Cornell). Hopefully we get a lot of people who will be jonesing for that special 10th Annual Iggy Award. Good luck to all.
1) Regular season record. There are 31 regular season games. My picks in bold (19-12)
2) ACC season record. There are 18 ACC games. 9-9
3) ACC Tournament record. The most we could play is five games and depending on our seed, we could max out at three or five games. Or, of course, we could bomb out at one game. Here is how it was set up last year. 2017 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament - Wikipedia 1-1
4) Post-season record (and notate if NCAA, NIT, CBI or CollegeInsider.com) 1-1 NIT
5) Leading scorer and how many points per game Battle 17.1
6) Leading rebounder and how many rebounds per game Brissett 6.2
7) Player with most minutes per game and how many. Battle 37.2
8) TIEBREAKER-Leader in 3 pointers made and how many Battle 85

And here is our recap from last year:

Unfortunately our season ended very prematurely, and in the esteemed words of our fearless leader, nothing good every ends prematurely. The committee had a much more difficult time tabulating the results of the 9th Annual Iggy Award mainly because our prognostications were so off target and we did not want to duplicate the Oscar snafu. Because of that, we have revisited our tallying procedures and will implement more stringent compilation policies for the 10th Annual Iggy Award.

So, first we would like to thank all 80 entrants who were not afraid to publicly share their now embarrassing picks. Hopefully next season, our coach won't be so optimistic which caused us to jump off the deep end to anoint the 2016-2017 Syracuse Orangemen as National Champions back in October.

So, now let's get down to business. The first Iggy category is for Regular Season record. We finished at 18-13. We had zero contestants choose 18-13, so the winner of the first Iggy is No One. If there was anyone who was remotely close to 18-13, the 9th Annual Iggy Committee might have chosen to go to the tiebreaker but it wasn't close.

The second Iggy category is for ACC conference record. We finished at 10-8. Again, out of our 80 expects we had no one choose 10-8. We did have 11-7, but the 9th Annual Iggy Committee, after a much heated discussion, took a vote and decided to stick to the principles of the contest and once again awarded the 2nd Iggy of the evening to No One.

So this brings us to the third Iggy of the evening. The Atlantic Coast Tournament Record. Ouch!!! This was our third appearance in this prestigious event but it was our third straight time of having the same result. It's probably a good thing we were ineligible to participate in 2015. JAB really didn't want to go to Greensboro that year anyways. So out of 80 entries, we had two smart fans who recognized a trend and chose 0-1 for the ACCT. We had Hoov and we had FortyFourCT and with the tiebreaker we are happy to award the 9th Annual Iggy for the ACCT to FortyFourCT. Congratulations!!!

Our fourth category is for our post season record. Umm, we had a problem again. 80 entries and 80 picks for the NCAA. No One chose us to participate in the NIT. So No One wins his (or hers) 3rd Iggy Award of the season. Unfortunately No One is a better picker than Some One or Any One. Next year I am definitely listening to No One.

Our fifth category is Points Per Game. Lots of people chose Tyler Lydon. Some chose Tyus Battle. I think one person chose Tyler Roberson. Only a handful of people chose Andrew White the Third. Fortunately a handful did because I would have hated to give out another Iggy to No One. AWIII averaged 18.5 ppg. We had AirForceOrange who chose 18.9 and PtzburghCuse who chose 18.1. Another tie breaking situation for the committee and we are proud to award the 9th Annual Iggy for Points Per Game to AirForceOrange. Congrats.

Our sixth category is Rebounds Per Game. Most entries chose Tyler Roberson. Why not. He led the team the year before at 8.5 rpg and he was now a returning senior. We all expected a big year. You could say, as Tyler Roberson went so did the Syracuse Orange. Years of therapy won't be able to answer all of life's questions so why even try. The correct result was Tyler Lydon at 8.6 RPG. Fortunately some people's crystal ball selected Lydon and the winner of the 9th Annual Iggy for Rebounds Per Game with a selection on the nose at 8.6 is Oraiste. Congratulations!!!

Our seventh category is Minutes Per Game. All but a handful of people thought Tyler Lydon was our Iron Man and he did average 36.1 MPG. However he wasn't number one. The leader was AWIII at 37.2. Very few people saw this coming and the winner (and also a 2016 8th Annual Iggy winner) being the closest to 37.2 is 81South. I believe 81South is the first time back to back and belly to belly winner so double congrats.

Our eight category was our tie breaking category for most made three's this season. In the spirit of competition, the 9th Annual Iggy Committee has decided to award an Iggy for this category this season as a bonus. So even though No One won three Iggys, No One came forward to pick them up. So we had some extras lying around. Most threes this season belonged to our new Syracuse Orangemen record holder in Andrew White the 3rd with 112. Sorry Scrantonians, we still love GMAC, but records are made to be broken. So in a very close race 113 to 110, the last three pointer of the season wrapped it up for Cusefan0307 over KaiserUEO. Congrats to Cusefan0307!!!

All winners will be mailed your 9th Annual Iggy Award once all of the proper documentation is signed and notarized and returned to the committee. Thank you all again for participating and congrats again to all of the winners. See you all next season.
