Not trying to look ahead to next year but I got to thinking... If Waiters does turn pro, wouldn't that leave us with just 3 guards on next years team? (Carter-Williams, Triche and Cooney) One of which is a freshman who has never played?

Is it just me or is that really thin for 2 positions (PG and SG)? I would think we would preferably want 4 guys who can dependably play those 2 positions.

Not that this is going to happen, but I could also see this season ending on a high note and Triche deciding to move on after 3+ years.

Even in 2003 when we only played 8 guys we still had 4 guards (Duany, McNamara, Edelin and Pace).

I expect Dion to be in the NBA next season.

Triche will be back.

MCW will be ready and he will be very good.

Cooney will have had a year in our system and will be much more ready than your average freshman.

While many teams will be worrying about how good their 1st or 2nd guard is our worry will be if we have a viable 4th guard just in case. We are in great shape overall and although I would like to have a 4th guy I wouldn't like to hand a scholly out to a left over 12 guard. I prefer that Mookie stays as the emergency guard or we get a really good walk on and use the scholly's for 13,14 guards.

Mookie? Not unless he has another year of eligibility we're all not aware of.

But having only three guards next year is a reasonable concern. I've been thinking about this ever since Dion exploded on the scene.

I wouldn't feel good about going into next year with only 3 guards.

To me this situation screams for a JUCO point.

Mookie redshirted one season and does indeed have another season of eligibility. He will most likely us the postgrad clause and play elsewhere but it would be a good situation for us to have him as an emergency 4th guard. wee know he can shoot and knows the system. Not the best situation for Mookie especially if he can play somewhere else next season.

It would be nice to have a 4th viable option at guard but there aren't really any guards left i the 12 class that make me want to use a scholly on. JUCO or walkon is always a possibility but are we going to get a quality JUCO to sit the bench as the 4th guard?

Wow, news to me. Mookie has been here about nine years then.

He came in the same class as KrisJo it was just the two of them. Mookie hurt his foot and was redshirted, I believe that was his soph campain.

Obviously you haven't been on the board this week.

when do we ever have 4 guards?

That are actually good enough to play big minutes? Never except for this year that I can recall.

Most years, we go with a three guard rotation [obviously this year is an exception]. We could get away with a MCW / Triche / Cooney backcourt next year, from a numbers perspective. All three of those guys have the requisite versatility to play in any combination. Wouldn't be the fleetest of foot backcourt we've ever had, but that would be on par depth wise with how Boeheim usually handles his backcourt rotation.

If Mookie stayed, he'd have an opportunity to see time as the fourth guy in that group.

Otherwise, we'd go with three. And we'd be down to two if anyone got injured, which scares me a bit.

This is why I don't understand why Garbs is so cavalier about this.

Yeah, that's right Garbs. I think you're being cavalier.

Isn't Monte Morris the kid who last summer said we were one of his dream schools, or something along those lines?

Yes but I do not believe we offered him or are really doing more than keeping tabs on him at this point.

Syracuse hasn't offered to my knowledge. That doesn't mean they haven't, just saying what I know. But yes they are keeping tabs on him.

I agree that Dion will likely bolt to the NBA, but why our ppl putting Fab Leaving along with him?

Lets not push Fab out the door just because he has made a significant jump like dion from fresh to soph years, And if Fab was somehow to leave how much trouble would we be in for next year?
