2017-18 Fall Ball / Mumps Ball / Preseason Ball

The actual season is still going to happen. They're not shutting down the program for the year. I don't think that would even be possible. They are just not doing the scrimmages this Fall it seems.
They need to do a full sanitization of Manley and other facilities teams use. Men's lax isn't the only team with cases of Mumps, which means it's on equipment being used by all fall sorts minus football. Football has their own facilities

As my previous post said. Fall ball is over but the old vs young alumni game and statue unveiling is still happening

'Cuse Men's and Women's Lacrosse Cancel Fall Season Events

Citing the health and well-being of its student-athletes, its opponents and the campus community, Syracuse University announced today that its men's and women's lacrosse teams will not participate in fall season events.

During the past few weeks, the University has been working closely with New York State and Onondaga County Health Department officials to swiftly respond to confirmed cases of mumps among its student population. Currently, eight students have been diagnosed with mumps, including members of the men's and women's lacrosse teams.

"Our student-athletes' safety, and the safety of all students, faculty and staff, remains our top priority," said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "After continued discussions, and with great counsel from the state and county, we are confident this is the right call."

The men's and women's lacrosse teams will not participate in any organized activities for a minimum of three weeks. This will allow the Department of Athletics to employ necessary measures to help prevent the further spread of the disease.

The University's Office of Health Services continues to activate its strong response protocol. This includes isolating the potentially infected students, sanitizing all areas with which the students came in contact and notifying all people who may have interacted with the affected students.

The Syracuse University men's lacrosse alumni event scheduled for Saturday, October 14 at 1:15 pm at the Carrier Dome will feature one game involving former student-athletes. Tickets are $10 and will be available at Carrier Dome gates A, B and C. Parking is free in the West parking lots. The 2017-18 Orange men will not participate in the event.

The Orange women's lacrosse team will not participate in fall play days at Penn State, Navy and Manhasset, N.Y.

Tortuous knowing that another day will be going by with other teams practicing and developing while Cuse is sidelined. Must be frustrating to all

The press release said we were taking three weeks off.

Can we resume Fall Ball in three weeks and have it extend into November?

Saying sanitizing should be finished in three weeks but hopefully the restart does not depend on no other players being diagnosed similar to lightning rules where restarts are reset on any reocurrence. Dont know fall season cutoffs but seems Cuse would have legit appeal for extension given unique circumstances. College n program shouldnt be penalized for being cautious n protective in a era of shortcuts

Wildhack said on his pregame radio show Saturday that they will almost certainly seek a waiver from the NCAA to extend fallball past the deadline. He sounded as if he had no doubt they'd grant it. They obviously won't be able to scrimmage anybody but will have the same amount of practice time as everyone else.

Quint Kessenich's fall #1 podcast for Inside Lacrosse has Terry Foy and Matt Kinnear as guests. Foy was at Syracuse practice and liked the freshmen midfielders, especially Dordevic and Oladunmoye.

I am very high on Dordevic, think he makes the top 6 at the midfield.

They were comparing SU's midfield this season to Duke's midfield last season, when they has a lot of freshmen, like Quigley, Lindsey, Walsh all playing.

Thanks. Went and listened. Also mentioned Buttermore and Quinn as possible players. Interesting that Foy pointed out Nate Solomon as the "star" on the team this year. Not sure we fans share that same thought. Nate is a little streaky thus far, but hopefully puts it together as a upperclassmen. Jeremy, I think you are right, when you said that it will be tough for Desko to keep these young freshman off the field, especially if the season turns into prepping for 2018 and beyond. They didn't talk specifically about FO, other than to say that losing Williams and Molloy was big, which we all know. The did remark that our midfield depth is very strong, and hopefully competition in practice will bring out the best on gameday.

Most interesting was the remark about the amount of teaching that SU coaches do. I think there has been some concern JD is phoning it in a bit, especially in recruiting, which may still be the case, but good to know they are getting after our players in practice.

There's solid chance he wears 22

That would be outstanding because that means he has absolutely crushed it this fall ( with the little practice time they had) and is fully over that knee injury from last spring. Would love to see him on the 1st midfield against Bingo in the first game.

Anyone know if Laxdotcom or another lacrosse highlight youtube pages were at the alumni game?

Doubtful as it was all former players who were playing.

You'd think the program would get some of it on tape to share with fans but...

LOL, that would require them to be proactive for a change. For the spring scrimmages I am thrilled if we can get a box score at this point.
