The fair starts next week, I thought having a thread where people could post cool things they saw or did at the fair would be a good way to show a different perspective, and maybe open up new ideas of what to do if you plan to go.

Daily events are listed here where you can also create/download an itinerary if you're so inclined: Daily Schedules - The Great New York State Fair!

Also for the first time ever my brother, sister and I actually entered a competition called Bucket of Junk. We were given just that, a bucket of junk which consisted of loose hardware such as pipe ends, washers, bolts, nails, paint sticks etc... with the goal of creating something out of it.

I'll post some pictures of the finished product once the fair starts, you can see the creations in the Art and Home Center (next to the Center of Progress building), you'll know which one is ours as soon as you see it.

I'm in Baltimore out of the loop a bit, and just saw Lynard Skynard has been added to Chevy Court lineup.

Fair starts a day early this year, Wednesday not Thursday. It's a "soft" opening, not everything will be in place.

The NYS Fair has to get its act together regarding parking. We tried to go last year, left 3+ hours early to see a free show at Chevy Court, sat in traffic for 2+ hours being redirected from parking lot to parking lot, and eventually found out all lots were closed. We drove to Carousel Mall (refuse to call it Destiny), and the line for the bus was 1+ hours.

i always go around 11-12 the day i want to go.. lines are about 5-10 min. took the bus back and forth multiple times last year from Destiny and had no lines there either.. some of the other bus stops have far less people i was told though. i had a longer wait to take the bus back to Destiny than to get to the Fair. the lines coming in from the n/w are generally faster than coming in from the city.

so here is our creation from the bucket of junk, we dropped it off today. I don't think we'll win, there were some pretty creative sculptures with the stuff we had to use. You can see all of them in the Art and Home building next to the Empire Room, 3rd floor

I was at Earth, Wind and Fire, what a fantastic show. I can't believe I got to see them for $3 that I paid for my admission ticket. I've never seen traffic that bad or that many people at the fair. I've got to say, I took the bus from Destiny and thought it would be at least an hour wait. But they called in reinforcements, we got on the bus for free and had a police escort to the front gate in 30 minutes. Amazing, I just can't get over how good that show was or how many people were there

We left early Sunday thinking we would be one of the first. Heading Wet on 690 the line of cars getting off at the State Fair Blvd exit extended to the Geddes St exit.

LOL at us.

coming in from the west 690 no cars, coming in from the east on 690 2 miles of traffic.
