4 Syracuse football backups who made a case for more time vs. Holy Cross (what we learned)

Rooting for Coley to take a starting role alongside Cisco.

He’s not flashy but he brings down ball carriers and provides glimpses of ballhawk playmaking capabilities.

His HS coach once told me that he was better suited for the offensive backfield.
He ran well, possession for possession vs Stevie Scott

High school aside, does anyone here believe Foster’s performance has been better than Coley’s? I realize the level of competition difference between Clemson and who Coley’s primarily faced, but we saw the same missed tackles and uncovered edge vs Maryland and Liberty.

Coley was terrible last year to so it shows how much he’s improved year over year. He’s was third on the depth chart.

I think Berry has made a case to play more.

I'd add M. Jones, Richards and Carl Jones to that list. It was HC, but all looked really good.

The soft schedule comment was related to our stuff rate on offense.

If you just consider the defenses we've faced, it's definitely a soft schedule.

And we're getting stuffed on the run way too much.

My thoughts:

- The Patriots had a lot of success with a two tight end look a while back. Maybe we could use Hackett and Benson in tandem. it might improve both the blocking and pass receiving at the same time. Benson may not be the blocker you'd want form a tight end but he's a better blocker than Riley or Johnson.

- I'd like to see Eric Coley returning kickoffs. He was greased lightening at -M. Yeah, it's -M but it looked as if it could translate to the next level. Modern kick off returners don't get many chances to make a big play but 1-2 of them could still make a big difference.

- I'd like to see the grades linemen get published. the quarterback, the running backs, the receivers and kickers all get stats, positive and negative. Why shouldn't the linemen get the same? Maybe someone with coaching experience could just look at the tapes and issue grades for the paper. It's better than just saying "the line sucks". If one guy grades out at 95% and the guy next to him is 65%, we should know that.

- Usng Elmore, as has been suggested, raises questions about when and if bear Williams will be back. remember when Frank Howard was supposed to be ready for the opener of the basketball season? Doesn't seem as if we get injuries that seem minor when first reported that become serious injuries that have a major impact on the seasons a bit too many times?

There's a service you can pay that has that OL breakdown... (Pro Football Focus?)
