It's worth another look, especially since it includes Stanford's great last drive for what appeared to be the game winning field goal. John Elway thinks that last play shouldn't have counted because the band was on the field. Yeah, John but it was YOUR band!

The ESPN 30 For 30 is outstanding. They interviewed Kevin Moen who scored the TD and the trombone player who Moen bowled over in the end zone. The call by the Cal radio guy, "The band is on the field...!" is legendary on all-time great PBP calls. I think I read that guy just retired a few years ago. I think he was interviewed on the 30 For 30 too.

Joe Starkey was the Cal announcer, he retired in 2022. Many years ago I heard him announcing a San Jose Sharks game, and kept thinking “I guess the band is out on the field guy calls other sports as well”. Very distinctive voice.
