I'm curious to see what everybody's 5 favorite movies are. They don't have to be in any order or anything.

I just watched Lawless and it was a fantastic movie with great acting from literally every actor and actress. It got me thinking about my favorite movies so...

My five favorite movies (not necessarily the five best)
1. Gladiator
2. Blade Runner
3. Braveheart
4. The Fifth Element
5. Robin Hood: Men In Tights

I did put mine in order.. but really they are all interchangeable depending on my mood.

In no particular order:

The Prestige
The Burbs
The Emperor's New Groove
Ferris Beuller's Day Off
Undercover Brother

I'm a different cat.

No order. Tough list to trim down to 5.

Casablanca
Gran Torino
The Quiet Man
The Last Samurai
Saving Private Ryan

Sixth man award: Blazing Saddles

No order.

Casablanca
The Empire Strikes Back
Pulp Fiction
Blazing Saddles
Field of Dreams

This changes basically every week but here goes...

Shaun of the Dead
Casablanca
The Shawshank Redemption
Inglorious Basterds
The Great Escape

I have about 100 favorite movies, but today my answer is:

Rear Window
Run Lola Run
Swingers
Empire Strikes Back
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Off the top of my head with no real thought and no order:

Big Lebowski
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Dr. Strangelove
Braveheart
Memento

No order. Tough list to trim down to 5.

Casablanca
Gran Torino
The Quiet Man
The Last Samurai
Saving Private Ryan

Sixth man award: Blazing Saddles

Yeah 5 is a small number. Like most other people my preferences change on a daily basis.

If i were to stretch it to 10 i'd include -
Moon (great performance by Sam Rockwell)
Star Wars: A New Hope
Moonrise Kingdom
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Saving Private Ryan

Great call on Cuckoo's Nest, that's really on the list too.
As is "The Game" - my favorite David Fincher movie.

Run Lola Run

I thought I was the only one who knew about Lola Rennt. That movie is hot.

Manly...

Big Lebowski
Fight Club
Shawshank
Pulp Fiction
Red Dawn
Gran Torino

Not so manly...

The Princess Bride

any romantic comedy with Drew Barrymore who I have been in unrequited love with since I was 10.

Could really pick from among 30-40 movies for this, but keeping in theme with just 5 ...

There Will Be Blood
The Big Lebowski
The Way
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Once Upon a Time in the West

Holy Man (grew up loving eddie murphys charector)

then theres the first time watched ones that blew me away.
Pirates of the Caribbean the first one (I underated it going in and disney never disappoints)
Lord of the rings the first one (I knew nothing about the lord of the rings at the time and it blew me away)
Recently Battleship, Avengers, Wreck it Ralph, the new Bourne identity, snow white and the huntsman, mission impossible 3.
Star wars never gets old. Its who we are.

I am more of a tv series guy though the charectors go on week after week. I am sure that thread will come up soon enough.

I'm late on this one. These are from off of the top of my head:

Pulp Fiction
Sunset Blvd
The Godfather Part II
Wall Street
A Mighty Wind

The goonies
Stand by me
super troopers
National treasure
Avengers
The dark knight
Lord of the ring trilogy
Boondock saints 1 and 2
Predator
Last action hero

I could add so many more but these are some of my favs

Anybody else use Flickchart? It's kind of fun. http://www.flickchart.com

I wish they had a similar website for music.
Eh, I like Netflix's algorithm the best, it really correlates a lot of data & lets you scale them rather than compare them. That said, I've got like 1,000+ ratings on Netflix which clearly gives its algorithm an advantage.

Meanwhile after ~100, flickchart took 3 of my least favorite choices (E.T., Scarface, and Borat) and slotted them #1, #2, #3 . That tells me it's not working for me. Also seems to really restrict itself to big hollywood box-office hits, no hint of independent or foreign films which I love.

Yeah it's not perfect. I had to type in the names of movies in the search box (that lets you compare them to what you've already picked) to get my top 5. However you can type in any movie from what i've seen.. Big budget or small. I have 1965 ratings on Flickchart (only 525 movies) and i mostly have movies i like over movies i don't like. There are outliers here and there and i seem to change my mind constantly but whatever.

I knew it was time to stop clicking through FlickChart when it asked me to choose between Schindler's List ... and Monty Pythons Holy Grail ... what kind of sick choice is that!?

here's 10 off the top of my head, and I know I am leaving out about 30 or 40:

Double Indemnity
The Searchers
The Wages of Fear
Rififfi
The Wild Bunch
Z
The Conversation
Two Lane Blacktop
Blood Simple
The Big Lebowski

Grapes of Wrath
La Strada
The Bicycle Thief
400 Blows
Strangers on a Train
The Godfather
Raging Bull
The Deer Hunter
Wizard of Oz
Black Orpheus

Not to mention: On The Waterfront, From Here to Eternity, Vertigo, Nights of Cabriria, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Roaring Twenties, Goodfellas, No Country for Old Men, The Seventh Seal, Easy Rider . . . .
