I've been watching episodes of one of my favorite shows from the old days, Lou Grant. "Judge" was shown 11/15/77. I had just turned 24 the previous month. This one was about a judge who was showing signs of senility, behaving bizarrely in court and in such a way as to prejudice the defendant's case. The problem seemed to be that he was still on the bench at age 74: should judge be allowed to stay judges to such an age? I'm sure to my 24 year old mind, the answer was 'no'. I have a vague memory of my parents, (yes, i was still living with them), being uncomfortable with the show. They were 64 and 57, respectively. I am now 67 and will be watching on January 20th as a 78 year old man displaces a 74 year old man as president of our country. (It's OK to say that- isn't it?) I now watch this show and am amazed that anyone would think that 74 is too old to be a judge.
