I've recently received several private messages asking questions about the moderators here and what they do. Apparently there are a lot of new posters here who don't know the background of this board. So here are some answers.
There are eight or nine moderators here. Usually at least one of is on line. (Some are night owls; others get up very early).
Syracusefan.com is a volunteer operation founded 12 years ago and is run by a diverse group of people who are SU fans. It was founded because SU fans were looking for a civilized place to have intelligent discussions about SU sports, and there was no such place available.
None of the moderators is employed by SU (I've actually gotten that question several times), but most of us actively support SU (season ticket holders, contributors, etc).
The primary reason why posts get deleted is because they are deemed "inappropriate" or in bad taste or include offensive language. For example, there were recently some homophobic posts in some pedophile threads. Occasionally, posts are deleted when a person insistently keeps re-posting the same thing over and over in a manic or hostile manner. Other times, they are deleted because they involve outrageous unfounded "rumors" that are posted as fact. The quickest way to get a post deleted is to ask why another post has been deleted. These are boards about SU sports, not about "why don't you like me?"
We try to run forums where SU fans can engage in intelligent, civilized discussions. As we said when the board was founded, "We can disagree without being disagreeable."
I hope this answers some of the questions out there.
