Surprised this isn't more talk about this article and Babers once again saying he needs more to compete or else what's the point. Came away after reading it a bit hopeful, and a bit unnerved. I think Wildhack can certainly do more to help, and probably has been trying, but, ultimately we will never be Clemson or FSU. Hopefully, a little more, is enough to hang onto good coaches, in football and basketball. It's tough as a fan to think the AD is just not interested in truly competing to the best of their ability, and I am certainly not saying thats the case here. However, if ever the day comes to pass where that seems evident, I will be very demoralized. BC is classic example of this."Our whole business is based off Ws and Ls, and I have to play those guys every year, the Clemsons and the Florida States," Babers said, "and if they get to put a loss on my schedule, that's not fair if I don't think you give me an opportunity to compete with them."
This is a perfect way to say it. Fans and media have come to accept built-in losses on Syracuse's schedule, and then fans get all upset when the team only wins 5 games, and then want the coach gone after year 3
Syracuse could never compete with the funding of public schools. States don't mind throwing a bunch of money at the wall to support athletics at their state institutions. I would never try to compare state school athletic budgets with Syracuse.Surprised this isn't more talk about this article and Babers once again saying he needs more to compete or else what's the point. I agree a whiffle ball field would be dumb and wasteful...without a green monster. How awesome would that be?You have to invest but invest smart, that was my takeaway. (Things like a whiffle ball field are dumb and wasteful)
or a slide and a bowling alleyI don't think we're getting a whiffle ball field, guys.
Agree with your hopeful/unnerved point. SU is going to have to walk a fine line here. You don't need (and won't ever get) a lot of the stuff these other programs have, but you have to have invested enough not to be dismissed by top recruits out of hand. Maybe that's 60, 70, or 80 cents on the dollar of what FSU/Clemson spend - I don't know. The real key is you have to know what you are selling, how to sell it, and to whom. I think Dino knows all three and he is continuing to push the administration in the right direction.Surprised this isn't more talk about this article and Babers once again saying he needs more to compete or else what's the point.
