Post Mintz everything is looking good, except that three point shooting is a potential big issue. Of course, if Cole comes back, that solves that problem in a big way.

However as the roster stands right now, Joe is the only proven three point scorer that we have.

Taylor and Mintz have good to very good potential, but whether or not they can they get it done consistently as frosh remains to be seen.

Of the frosh, it appears no trey help would be on the way from Cope, Carey, or Brown......maybe down the road, but unlikely as frosh.

That leaves Bunch as a bit of a wild card, but I think the tea leaves say he will need at least a year of seasoning to be effective from distance.

Team badly needs back Cole or a three point specialist from the portal.

Rebounding is going to be absolutely brutal imo

Jesse can board. If Williams steps up enough to get and maintain starters minutes that will imply he is rebounding decently. Of course, Cole is also a decent rebounder if he returns. Amongst the frosh, I think Brown could be effective on the glass. If Cope can find some minutes he should be an effective rebounder from the backcourt.

Of course, the Zone itself always makes rebounding an issue regardless of talent, so you have a very good point.

Jesse, Benny and Cole is a pretty good rebounding front. We were 230th in rebounding pct this year, 248th prior, 220th before that, 253rd before that and so on.

I think we can land higher with this group if Cole returns.

Brutal? If Cole comes back we would have Cole, Jesse and Benny I think that is better than Jesse, Cole and Jimmy.
I’ll agree if Cole comes back. I havent seen that hes confirmed that yet

Couldn’t agree more. 3 point shooting will be a major problem without Cole or a cole portal replacement

SU averaged 36.3 rebounds total per game. With Jimmy (6.2), Frank (3.8), Bourama (2.8) gone, to equal it next season, Benny, Cole, Jesse and some combo of new players will have to get 12.8 more rebounds/game. Of course more if we want to improve our rebounding average. Without Cole (6.8) - even scarier.

That really isn't the way to look at it. How many extra shots did we allow teams to take before we got those rebounds? Frank is a loss as on the boards. Jimmy is not.

It’s hard to predict improvement but we hope there will be, but last years grouping was better based on rebounding advanced stats because Jimmy was > than Benny.

The biggest determinant of next year’s success will be the development of Benny. If he doesn’t make the leap we will suffer. If the light bulb goes off, we have a chance to be a tournament team.

Losing Frank is a big blow. Losing Cole would also hurt badly.

We haven't been getting guys of equal quality from the portal compared to what we're losing.

You said if he makes the leap, we are in trouble?? LOL Why would that be? Seriously, if he doesn't maybe one of the frosh can emerge. Maybe JJ. Maybe Bunch.

I think the more meaningful comparison is Benny Williams to Jimmy Boeheim. While Williams was completely out of his depth this year, he still was a decent rebounder. In conference play, Williams averaged 6.8 rebounds per 40 minutes. Jimmy snagged 7 per 40. Swider 7.5. The centers were better, with Sidibe at 8.8 and Anselem 11.4. Edwards averaged 9.6.

With Williams having a year of experience and more confidence, I think he'll really fill Jimmy's shoes in this category. The bigger risk is Anselem. We might really miss him this year if Edwards doesn't take still another leap. It seems the staff is working to replace Anselem with a transfer, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I hope Benny does step up to at least equal Jimmy. I don’t know why there’s a discrepancy but according to Sports reference that has tracked every player’s statistics for decades says Benny’s 40 minute rebounding # was just 5.4 rebounds. How accurate a predictor any 40 minute stat is I can’t say but Jimmy Boeheim’s number is 7.1 rebounds.

I’m hoping too that they find a replacement for Frank just like you do. Jesse has had foul trouble limiting his minutes in games not counting his current injury so replacing Frank who was quite valuable in relief, is crucial. He averaged 3.8 rebounds as a backup this past year and his 40 minute rebound stat is 10.9.

Excited about next year but I do feel that there are still questions to be answered. (a forward able to create his own shot & go to the basket etc)A full roster will certainly help the future and a good base to build on.
