i'll post one thread for each administration of my lifetime. rules are the album must have been released during the term of office & mostly from u.s. artists, as foreign artists are going to be less indicative of that presidential era

feel free to post as many as you want. i am limiting myself to 10 from each term and only one from an artist in that period

my 10 from the nixon/ford era

New York Dolls, The New York Dolls
Viva Terlingua, Jerry Jeff Walker
Honky Tonk Heroes, Waylon Jennings
Warren Zevon, Warren Zevon
Bitches Brew, Miles Davis
Mendocino, Sir Douglas Quintet
Birds of Fire, Mahavishnu Orchestra
Willie and Family Live, Willie Nelson
Will the Circle Be Unbroken, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Live at Kansas State, Earl Scruggs Review

Killer by the Alice Cooper band.

Wow, you've given me a lot to think about with these threads. Think I'll try to start with the Carter years as that was basically when I was in college. Lots to choose from just in that narrow window of time.

yeah, i saw a thread on another board about top albums of the reagan era and it got me thinking. late reagan years were when i really started getting into music but my collection has become extensive. i limited myself to albums that i actually own.

This was quite period for music -- very hard to narrow this down or even select one album for the many great artists active in the era. Surely I've omitted some worthy artists.
  • Sunflower (The Beach Boys)
  • The Gilded Palace of Sin (The Flying Burrrito Brothers)
  • Let There Be Music (Orleans)
  • The Late Great Townes Van Zandt (Townes Van Zandt)
  • Innervisions (Stevie Wonder)
  • #1 Record (Big Star)
  • Ramones (The Ramones)
  • L.A. Woman (The Doors)
  • Blood on the Tracks (Bob Dylan)
  • Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon & Garfunkel)
  • Tapestry (Carole King)
  • Deja Vu (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young)
  • Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen)
  • Can't Buy a Thrill (Steely Dan)
  • Cosmo's Factory (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
  • Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (Derek and the Dominos)
  • On the Beach (Neil Young)
  • The Band (The Band)

Such an incredible and underrated/overlooked album. Love me some "Vampire Blues."

Stooges - Fun House (my current vote for greatest rock album of all time); Raw Power
Modern Lovers - s/t
Steely Dan - Katy Lied, Royal Scam
Zappa - Hot Rats
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica (yeah, I can be weird)
