1) A vague accusation of an assistant coach is made in 2003, the University notifies the SPD & undergoes its own investigation. New evidence emerges 8 years later and the University fires said coach even before an investigation is made.

2) Players may have violated the University drug policy, so the University self-reports itself to the NCAA.

3) NCAA declares SU player eligible, SU objects and independently rules its own player - a key member on a record setting team - ineligible to play two days before the NCAA tournament.

... three 'scandals' met (or created) by three acts of integrity accepting responsibility. About time someone in the media acknowledges this. Instead, hack outlets like Yahoo! Sports that are desperately trying to appear relevant are too busy creating stories rather than reporting them.

You are correct. However, outside of this forum and maybe Onondaga County, most people are buying what the media is selling. That is why the University needs to go on the offensive. More people probably believe Lenn Robbins "suggestion" that Melo was booted from the team for drug use than believe the University itself determined that Melo was ineligible(presumably for academic reasons).

Then there is this gem from the Providence forum making its way around the internet:

"My girlfriend's family has a connection in the Syracuse athletic department that swears up and down that the point shaving business from last year will resurface again in the future. Goes to show the credibility of some of these "sources".

#2 isn't quite right. It's more like: The University violated its drug policy and several years later, self-reported to the NCAA.

Which of these acts deserves credit, exactly:

That for years SU had an alleged pedophile as a top assistant coach and when a complaint surfaced in 2005 SU did a lame "investigation" that in 20011 the Chancellor tried to pawn off as "comprehensive."

That the university created a drug policy and then supposedly turned it into a bogus sham?

That a key player doesn't stay on the straight and narrow to make sure he's academically eligible?

I can't tell you how proud I am to be an SU alumnus and fan.

And please, let's stop this ridiculous blaming of the news media.
If they never wrote or broadcast a single word would any of these events not have occurred?
Please.

Now let's hope the team rallies and kicks a little rump.
The players deserve credit for being able to focus on their game with all the chaos swirling around.

What proof do you have that it was a lame investigation? Fritz'? He is a self serving proclamation. If he told me it was raining I would have to walk outside to see for myself. This is a guy who withheld witness statements in the Cynthia Pugh case.
