Andre Szmyt on Scholarship

Didn’t realize we had one available. Better update the fishes and loaves thread lol

Dino revealed on his coaches show tonight that the team was fired up after it was announced that Andre Smytz received a scholarship. Well deserved and a great decision by Dino and his staff.
What a huge benefit to have a solid 50+ yard kicker for the next 3 years.

Didn't realize there was a show during the bye week. Anything else of interest from the show?

It was not a scheduled show but they announced it last week. I think they were hoping to be 5-1 and scheduled the show to build momentum for the UNC game.

Had three practices this week working on technique with a skeleton coaching staff.

Discussed with the team the fact this staff had not lost a game when leading in the 4th quarter until last year. They lost one game last year and losing two straight games this year when leading in the 4th quarter is “unacceptable.”

Several players received treatment and did not practice. Would not comment if Butler was returning to the team for the UNC game.

As luck would have it UNC will have all their suspended players back next Saturday.

Players are heading home this weekend.

Dino leaving this morning for a recruiting trip.

On recruiting visits the coaches ask three people (not football coaches) about what type of person the recruit is. That includes walking up to a random student to get their opinion of a recruit.

What a story Szmyt has been for Syracuse. A preferred walk-on, the redshirt freshman stepped in for four-year starter Cole Murphy and has been about as good as a place-kicker can be for the Orange, who are off to a 4-2 start. Szmyt is 16-of-17 on field-goal attempts and 3-of-3 on kicks of 50 yards or longer.
