Yes, on paper we should have lost these last two. And we had chances to win both. I think it could bode well for the rest of the year, given we take care of business with Wake/Clemson/1st Round of ACC’s.

All that being said, Syracuse has double-digit losses for the 5th straight year. The longest streak in SU basketball history.

Disappointing. Thought this year could have been different with a 4-5 seed in the NCAA tournament.

still wondering why everyone thought it would be so different this year. Last years team was not v good and it’s basically the same team

No it isn't. I keep hearing that and it is not true. It's, at times, turned into the same team and that's part of the problem.

1. Tyus came back. Anytime your best player comes back, that's significant.
2. Hughes was added. Needed another scorer. Got another scorer.
3. Lacked PG depth last year badly. Well, we got Jalen Carey, a guy highly touted who supposedly was going to push Frank for minutes.
4. A shooter in Buddy. He has absolutely out performed most people's expectations.

This is not last year's team. Not to mention, every returning player another year into the program. It should be much better, and at times, it has been.

we returned all 5 starters, so we assumed improvement from them and we thought Hughes and Buddy would give us a lot of outside shooting help. Buddy generally has, Hughes not really much of the time. it wasn't just us, about a dozen ESPN guys had us in the Final Four in their preseason picks (out of about 40 or so people). we all were fooled by the Sweet 16 run and ignored the NIT-type regular season we had last year

...what?

The team depth has improved, but I'm not sure the quality has significantly improved and the offense is still a weak point.

And free throws ... lol. Keita was 80/138 (58%) for his career. Syracuse was 13/23 (56.5%) last night and that is not optimal. 275th in the country in free throw % on the season. Coby White was 10/10. Since 2010-11, Syracuse has had 8 players make 100% of free throws with more than 10 attempts. Last year Oshae was 16/16. He's lost 14 percentage points from his FT%.

Lol what a joke.
Syracuse Basketball: Jim Boeheim really likes his team this season

Jim Boeheim himself said this was our best team since 2014 at ACC Media Day now we get this spin from you.
This is not the same team as last year having Hughes and Buddy is 15 points more per game.
Last year we had 3 players who could score now we have 5.

But yeah your right people shouldn’t expect college kids to get better over their careers they are finished products from the 2017-2018 season.

This, while the depth has improved this essentially the same team form last year that while improved overall offensively still has the same issues. Rebounding, Ft's and player improvement vs regression continues to be an issue. Bringing back every starter was nice but has anyone really improved all that much? Tyus still has games where he carries us and plays lights out and other games where he struggles mightily. Howard has regressed slightly, Chukwu's about the same, Dolezaj runs hot and cold, and Sidibe and Brisette have both fallen off a cliff. Buddy and Elijah have been nice additions but Buddy is pretty much a shooter only at this point and Hughes has struggled in the second half of games. Overall the team is slight better then last year despite the fact that the 1 and 5 have struggled pretty much all year save for a few nice games from Howard and Chukwu respectively. Ft's continue to dog this team and Brisette has pretty much stopped rebounding which is killing us inside.

At this point were still in pretty good shape despite blowing both the Duke and UNC games. If this team can play like they did last night from an offensive perspective we should roll Wake and hopefully beat Clemson. Its tough to say based on our history but just making the NCAA's is a victory for this team with all of its flaws.

Our biggest problem honestly is we are a jump shooting team to score and that is hit or miss and we are the easiest team in the nation to prepare for. Our conference rivals know how to play us.
The jump shooting lack of a diverse offense allows us to lose games like Buffalo and Old Dominion.
The conference and UConn games are because these teams know how to play us.
It will get better when we have a better offense during nonconference games.
The conference stuff won’t change how we play them.

2016 was better.
Gbinije/Richardson/Lydon with Cooney and Roberson > than this team.

I know that team went to the final 4, but the overall season wasn’t any better than this one. 9-9 in conference. 19-12 regular season. Lost 5 of our last 6 ACC games. Averaged 70ppg and gave up 65ppg, exactly as this season.

We’ll call it a tie. :)

I do think Boeheim’s absense for 9 games was a big reason though. We lost to some teams that we shouldn’t have during that stretch.

Yeah I can't see us getting spanked by St. Johns or losing to Clemson at home with JB.

10-loss teams are becoming more common across the board since the conferences are larger (meaning more conference games).

If we were in the top 25 a bunch the past 5 years I'd see your point, but we are more like the 35-40th best team in the country over that period.

We lost to some teams early this year we shouldn’t have too. And on 2016 we did have JB when we lost 5 of our last 6 ACC games.

Schedule was brutal for that end of the season stretch though.

Looking at KenPom the 2016 team would be favored by about 2 against this team on a neutral court. That team is about as good as the current Nova or Marquette teams.

2016 won the Battle for Atlantis.
It was a good team. We lost to Wisconsin because our offense went cold and Georgetown was going to be a loss.
When Malachi Richardson was good that team was elite. He was a Freshman who wasn’t consistent.
Lydon is the perfect 21st century college big.
That team was probably a 6 seed that was a 10 seed because of stupid losses.

More excuses.

Let me circle back to the five straight 10+ loss seasons.

In all of those seasons, we have had 10 losses in the regular season.

10, 14, 15, 14, 13. If we were 24-10, fine. We were 30-10 in 2012-13, went to the final four, but were 23-8 at the end of the regular season.

We haven't ended the regular season with 20 wins over this span, either.
