Comments: We’ll be deciding the MVPs in a month. Off of the above, I think I’d go with Mookie Betts and Kris Bryant at this point but that could change. Josh Donaldson won it last year. Betts is ahead on him by 5 in run production, behind him by 1 in base production but has a slightly higher rate in each per game, although Donaldson is ahead per plate appearance. The Blues are currently one game up on the Red Sox, so it’s as close as it can get. If the Astros can make the playoffs, that can help Altuve. The angels are out of it, which hurts Trout. Playing on the east coast helps Betts as far as national publicity but having other candidates like Bogaerts and Ortiz may hurt him, although he’s clearly the best candidate of those three.

Bryant is not going to lose to Arenado, who plays in Colorado for a bad team. He clearly ahs better numbers than anyone else. The Cubs are having a great season and that has to be acknowledged in the voting. Bryant’s biggest problem is that Rizzo might draw some votes away from him. Frankly, when my Mets play the Cubs, Rizzo is the one that scares me because he has hurt us the most. Rizzo also had a feature article in SI this year that emphasized his leadership with the Cubs. But Bryant has better numbers across the board. I heard an announcer say that its’ between Bryant, Murphy and Seager but their numbers aren’t really comparable.

Trevor Story tore his ulnar collateral ligament and is out for the season. Aledmys Diaz fractured his thumb but may be back shortly. Jay Bruce got traded to the Mets, after which he produced 8 runs in 25 games (0.32) and 103 PAs, (.078).
