31 - Tyus Battle - 2016-17-18 - 88 games - 1403 points... 15.9/game

There are 14 ACC games left. Assuming Tyus keeps his average of 18/game this year, that's another 252 points (1655 points -#16 on the list ahead of Davey Johnson). Then, there's the ACCT and hopefully the NCAAT. Let's assume another 3 games after ACC play, conservatively. That's another 54 points. That gets him to 1709 points by year end, could be better if they go on a run.

1709 points gets him to about #14 on that list and just ahead of Devo and right behind Seikaly. If he comes back for his senior year, which I think he should, he will set the all-time scoring record at Syracuse.

Quite the career, albeit on middling teams.

If we played 35 games this year and next, those 52 games at 18 ppg would give him the all-time record over Moten.

I’d love to see him going after that, but it’s highly unlikely.

Agreed. I'd love to see him stay. Doesn't seem like an NBA player to me, but will have a career in Europe. Hopefully, he's willing to get his degree first.

He’ll get his degree this year

I think he’ll be 1-2 courses short after this year. Thought I read that someplace.

who would you most compare his game to on that list ? maybe todd burgan ?

If Devo hadn't been kicked off the team heading into his senior season, he had an outside chance of becoming the program's all-time leading scorer. Just silly.

Someone said that to me earlier that season and I was thinking "no chance." Was surprised when I looked at the numbers.

That would've created an awkward situation since Devendorf got practically a third of a season as a bonus due to his injury as a junior. Gotta put an asterisk on that, I would think.

with at least 10 games left to play, at his current pace he would pass triche. depending on how far the team goes & how he performs, he could also pass dave johnson.

cj & devo probably are out of reach unless he has a shabazz napier like acc & ncaa tournament runs

8 ACC games left + at least 1 ACCT game = 9 games. Assuming he scores his career average of 16 pts/game, that's an extra 144 points, which gets him to 1,649 points, ahead of Dave Johnson for #16. Any run in the ACCT, and hopefully the NCAAT, and he could easily surpass Devo, maybe even Seikaly to get to #13.

If he comes back for his senior year, he will become the all-time leading scorer at SU, surpassing Moten's 24 year old record...

well that's a rather large supposition and not a given. they don't give those points away. a lot could happen.

ah, i misread his current total

Mike Waters, beat writer for Syracuse.com, has an interesting idea. He thinks Boeheim should offer him the opportunity to run the point exclusively next year. Would give pros another view how versatile he is if he were the full-time point guard. It's obvious he'd be real good at it and he'd be the best point guard on the team by far. Interesting idea, wonder if Boeheim would consider it and wonder if Tyus would take him up on it.

well that's a rather large supposition and not a given. they don't give those points away. a lot could happen.

Of course my prognostication is bold. Certainly not out of the question with a return (most unlikely out of all of this), and well within his reach if this team has any postseason success this year or next.

There are 8 more ACC games this year, plus at least 1 ACCT game and at least 1 NIT or NCAAT game, and assuming a healthy body, he has at a minimum 10 more games this year. 10 games at his season average of 17.7 pts/game, that's another 177 points bringing his total to 1,682 points. That would surpass Devo and get him into 14th all-time.

IF (this is futile without it) he returns and plays his usual ~35 games and averages 18 pts/game (factoring out his freshman yr), that's another 630 points.

1682 points + 630 points = 2,312 points. Assuming the team advances in either year in the ACCT, NCAAT or the NIT, he will surpass Moten's record 2,334 points.

Let's hope he comes back. We need him next year.

I don’t want anyone to break Moten’s record...unless they average more points per game than Lawrence did.

Somebody averaging 17 ppg over 4 years and breaking it because they play 40 games a year now, doesn’t deserve it.

Just like #1 - #8 on the list didn't deserve Bing's record, which was achieved in just 76 games with a 24.8 ppg average. That's why we also maintain a list of the players with the top scoring averages.

How many points would Bing, Addison or Santifer have had if they had played in the 3 point era?

Records are made to be broken.

Records are made to be broken.

If Bing played in the 3 point era, that means he also would’ve played in the early entree era...so he’d never have been at SU long enough to break it, just like Melo and Billy. Those guys are obviously the best we’ve had.

Tyus plays under the same rules as Lawrence, except they shoot way more 3’s now.

If a 4 year guy breaks it because they played 25 more games - not because of durability and deeper tournament runs, but because more games were scheduled - that feels kindve hollow to me.

Lawrence was 18-20 ppg for 4 straight years. Remarkable.
