Beach suggestions needed

So for San Diego, I tried to take the Board's advice. Basically, we are going to stay two nights in Old Town, plan on hitting a Padres game (using the Trolley), and three nights at the Catamaran to get that beach access. Since we will be renting a car for that portion of the trip, we are also going to hit the zoo and at least La Jolla.
La Jolla is my favorite place on the planet. I know it like the back of my hand having been there 5 times. I'd give my left nut to spend the rest of my life there

is the beach swimmable in February down there? Anyone?

My wife hit me with the "I need some warmth" this past weekend, so I need some suggestions. Here's what she wants - beach, hiking, safe for running, more to do that just sitting and reading. My kid and I like to fish, either from shore or guided. We did Hawaii a couple years ago, and don't have the time to do that again. We were thinking about something like Aruba, but that seems not to have options other than the beach.

Feb/Winter break this year is last weekend of Feb through the first weekend in March.

Go!
My wife and I go to the Dominican every year in February. We go to an all inclusive resort in Punta Cana. Punta Cana is loaded with all inclusives, and I've never been to a bad one. Unlimited alcoholic/nonalcoholic drinks, unlimited food (5-star caliber restaurants), beautiful white sand beaches, a lot of pools with swim up bars, nightly entertainment like Movies, plays, Cirque De Sole, nightclubs, casinos...all included with airfare. If you're going without kids, then choose a resort that is adults only. We always book through cheap carribean .com because they have the best prices, and include hurricane insurance. We usually fly out of Syracuse (more expensive, but convenient), and have 1 stop in Charlotte, or Philly. For 5 nights all inclusive in Feb, we usually pay between $2400-$3000 total for the both of us...remember...that includes literally everything... Airfare, unlimited food and drinks, on resort entertainment, transfers to and from airport... You could go there with no cash at all, and still have a great time. We of course bring money for souvenirs, and off site excursions like swimming with dolphins, or taking a jungle tour. Can't go wrong.

Is that why John Kruk lives there now?

I just got back from Belize last Friday, went to Caye Caulker with my best friend for her 50th birthday. Caye Caulker is a 45 minute water taxi ride across the Gulf of Mexico, cheap as hell to eat & drink there. The Belize dollar is equivalent to $2 U.S., the local beer of choice is Beliken or Light House which you can buy for about 2 bucks american. This island is really off the grid, I'll compare it to Gilligan's Island. No cars, only golf carts and bikes. There is one main street with a few bodega's, fry jack huts and bars and a shat ton of street bbq. While it wouldn't have the hiking you're looking for the experience is something that a 14 year old will never forget. The island is so small you can see an ocean sunrise and sunset. Small beach on the tip of the island with a full service restaurant/bar.

Airfare from Syracuse was $725, Delta has 2 flights a day from Atlanta to Belize City on an Airbus with plenty of free entertainment. Here is a pic of main st. You could stay on the mainland and go see the Mayan Ruins and take a few days to stay on Caye Caulker or San Pedro

My first recommendation would have been St. Maarten, as bees said I don't know what kind of shape the island is in after the hurricane, the pictures show mass devastation. The beach on the french side of the island, Orient Beach, is fabulous. You can see St. Baarts and take a charter there if you choose or just stay and check out the nude beach.

Bermuda's pink beach sand is probably my favorite of the beaches I've been to and only a short plane ride from NYC. I remember it being expensive there but I went 2007

Orient Beach huh? Hmmm...LOL.

Prior to this thread I was all set to book St Kitts this spring. I have since changed my mind and just confirming dates with wife to go to Ambergris Caye. Looks exactly what I am looking for.

I went to Punta Cana a few years back. I read on a travel forum to bring baseballs because they are very popular with Dominicans and more valuable than money. I schlepped a dozen baseballs with me but quickly found out they had no value at all. I ended up leaving them in my room at the resort hoping that one of the employees had some kids that would enjoy them.

So, we've decided on Curacao. Found direct flights from JFK on JetBlue, which is nice. Finalizing our accommodations tonight. Can't wait to report out on our stay!

I'd like to hear for sure. Looking at maybe doing one of the ABC's next year instead of Grand Cayman. I know your son is older, but i'd be interested in anything you find that might be good for young kids (8 and 5).

I highly recommend O Restaurant which is located at Las Terrazas Resort which is about three miles away from San Pedro (most travel on Ambergris is by golf cart so it'll take about 30 minutes to get there). It was, by far, our favorite restaurant. There are also a few places in town - Elvi's Kitchen, Blue Water Grill and Caliente were all good - the last two are right on the beach.

One last place - D and E's Frozen Custard. It's run by two American ex-pats and we thought it was great. There's an indigenous fruit in Belize called soursop that is one of their best selling flavors and it's very good.

Hey Kelly, did you do any fishing. I just watched this video and even though I really don't fish, I've always wanted to do flat fishing. This video just makes me want to do it even more.

I didn't do any fishing in Belize but there were plenty of charters and boat captains on the island that will take you out fishing. I stayed on Caye Caulker which is significantly smaller and less commercialized than San Pedro where you would find a multitude of fishing charters.

I did go deep sea fishing in the Keys many years ago, to this day it was the best vacation I've ever had. Ireland is a close second.
