One of the most stunning interviews I have ever seen and that is saying something. There is nothing more important than being accurate. Nothing. When I was at Newhouse in the 70's (yes, 70's) the rule was get it right. If you get it first, that is great. Now, it is get it first. If you get it right, that's great.

I'm not even sure that getting it first or right are important to some news outlets. It's about getting the most mouse clicks.

Right doesn't matter to most "news" organizations: only left matters, and truth be damned.

Is this a shot at news organizations with a perceived liberal bias? Because the mere existence of Fox News kind of spits in the face of the argument.

    They have backing from NBC/Universal.

Part of me thinks it's a brilliant indoctrination vehicle. Suck in teenagers and millennials with funny lists, quizzes and articles. I, myself, found their content sometimes funny. Then when they accrued millions of followers, you saw a narrative shift with progressive views being espoused here and there, periodically, mixed in with the content used to accrue those followers.

They added editors, "journalists", Buzzfeed News etc.

Then came the election. They had contributors link up with the HRC campaign. They attacked Bernie in the primaries and posted pro-Hillary content. Then absolutely shredded Trump all throughout the General and it's just gotten worse since he was elected.

I think NBC has put a few hundred million into Buzzfeed to support it.

I found this counter argument to have some good points on why BuzzFeed was right to publish the dossier

BuzzFeed was right to publish Trump-Russia files

"By publishing the documents when it did, accompanied by strong caveats about their reliability, BuzzFeed put itself at the heart of the story and made some of its most prominent journalists go-to people for any tips the dossier might generate. The most typical kind of investigative reporting entails spending months or even years gathering documents and cultivating sources to build an unshakable edifice. BuzzFeed took a different but still well-established approach: Release what you can when you have it and see what new leads it generates. If this strategy pays off, the outlet that has morphed from a cat-video factory to a font of serious journalism could end up with some terrific scoops. You can almost hear the rest of the media muttering, “Damn, why didn’t we think of that first?”

"Some critics seem to be saying that unless the information in an intelligence briefing or other leaked document can be independently verified by reporters, it shouldn’t be published. But did reporters independently verify all the allegations against Hillary Clinton and her allies contained in the emails released by WikiLeaks? "

"It’s also worth noting how many reporters apparently have had access to the documents for weeks or months (Mother Jones’s David Corn wrote about them back in October). That means an unknown number of top journalists have been trying—and apparently failing—to pin down these details, which is extraordinary since, as others have noted, “[t]his is a document about meetings that either took place or did not take place, stays in hotels that either happened or didn’t, travel that either happened or did not happen. It should be possible to know whether at least some of these allegations are true or false.”

it's not ok to release stuff that isn't true just because you think people might correct it

Okay, well that's not true for most news organizations either. So I still disagree with your point, if only for a different reason.

For the record, if we're counting Buzzfeed as a news organization, then I don't know what a news organization is anymore. I'd put everything Buzzfeed has ever done firmly in the entertainment category like TMZ or Perez Hilton, crap like that.

Tell that to Trump, his sons, Flynn, Bannon, Conway, etc.

You're holding a meme website to a higher standard than the frickin president and his cabinet.

I have the same respect for Buzzfeed as I do for Breitbart.

    Not much at all.

Two sides of the same coin, really.
