Bernie Fine Fallout: 2014 Recruit Removes Syracuse from List in Wake of Allegations

Article from Daily News is linked in the Sunday article post but I felt it might get lost there. If you get the actual paper - the article is an entire page including a big headline. Whoever said that there is no such thing as bad publicity has probably never had to deal with a situation like this one. Bad for all SU sports recruting efforts now no matter what the conclusion. Unfortunately the broad brush strokes already applied to this story will never be completely erased even if it turns out that there is nothing to any of it.

Personally, I think his mom is jumping the gun here, and seems to be assuming guilt. Hopefully, this isn't a trend.
And my biggest fear has started. This is really going to hurt us even if nothing comes of it and Bernie is innocent. It will be in people's heads that its true. This one we heard about because we were already on his list. How many more just won't even give us a look because they have it in their head that its true? The next 10 years are going to be a lot tougher.

She probably didn't want to mention once the snake from UK comes calling with $$$ they will jump on that in a heartbeat, but then again Cal runs clean programs.

The next 2-3 years will be tougher. Luckily we are loaded and loaded for next year. If BF is innocent or if it turns out to just be the 2 ballboys, thats my view, 2-3 years...just as long as it isnt systemic like PSU.

She obviously hasn't done much research into this topic. Perhaps she didn't see the idiots interviews?

Who knows. Either way, it's way too premature. I'm glad to see other recruits said they were going to wait and see how it plays out before making a decision on it.

What recruits said that?

I think it was most of our fears. Now that said, remember this is only one recruit right now. If this becomes a trend, then there's a major issue. But don't think if JB really wants this kid, he won't reach out to his mom and try to set the situation straight. Doesn't mean it'll work, but we shall see.

Scary development despite her rush to
Judgement. This is a golden age for SU recruiting wise. Hard to believe it could
Be destroyed, by something like this...

Looks like we will just have to win a National Championship this year to offset this.

Well, with Fine going on administrative leave, we're acquiescing a level of guilt. I'd pull my kid to.

Long - term, this could hurt a lot. We had an almost untouchable momentum, which is what you want in recruiting. Getting good kids early and often, and taking that free team to get in contact with gooder kids earlier and oftener. It builds on itself. Hate to see that affected in any way. We lose somebody, then we have to play catch up. Then it starts trending in the other direction.

We need that meth head to come clean early and in a very public manner. Won't happen, but that is what we need.

Like I said, no matter the outcome as long as it wasnt PSU systemic, im not super worried. We'll have a serious black eye for 2-3 years but as long as we keep winning, packing out the dome, move to the ACC, beat Duke we will be fine. Gotta hold onto our recruits for next year though, luckily DC3 knows us and is a program kid so im not worried about him.

anything on Coleman and Grant? How do they feel?
Nothing. But I'm trying to get in touch with both to see if they'll go on the record for my site. Haven't heard back from either.

I've also contacted McCullough and Whitehead to get quotes directly from them. No response from them either.

That does not imply any level of guilt. Its just a smart move by someone under investigation.

Administrative leave is standard protocol. Even if you know the person is 100% innocent.

This is why (imo) Bernie won't be back regardless of the outcome. Once you get hit publicly this kind of accusation it never goes away.

Yeah. Swish you're better than that
I said "a level". Not "he's guilty!"
I also agree it is the right and only thing to do in the situation.
