I really don't feel like reading this stuff, so forgive me my laziness, but wouldn't the only point be to secure the longterm BCS bid? And if this is the only way to do it, is it even worth it if you have to share the money that many different ways?

That's not a conference. it's a division. The remaining Big East football schools, (once West Virginia, Connecticut and Rutgers leave, as they will), should get together with Conference USA, where they mostly came from and the WAC and Mountain West should get back together. Then get rid of the BCS and issue bowl invitations simply based on merit rather than conference affiliation and everything will settle down into something logically palatable.
