SU 34 9
Pitt 28 14
WV 28 14
ND 27 15
UL 25 17
Gtown 25 18
Marq 24 18
Nova 24 19
Cincy 23 19
Uconn 20 23
StJ 20 23
SH 20 23
USF 16 26
RU 13 29
PC 9 33
Depaul 3 39

it may take depaul 100years to catch JB in wins.

If this was the Pitt board, this would be tacked to the top.

All that matters is the NCAAs. It is amazing that UConn is below .500 its last 43 BE games yet I am sure their fans don't care given the NCAAT.

LOL, except we can put up all time BE records and still be at the top. I will admit had the same thought when I saw last three years. The fact that they cherry pick when to start that and tack it tells you all you need to know about that fan base.

Depaul is only 30 1/2 games behind us.
i realize this is the hoop board and you are probably 12, but...try and keep up.

Oh Lord

Top 5 are all Football schools (granted, ND doesn't play in the conference).

Notice that there is only one Football school in the Bottom 5.

Two if you count Rutgers.

LOL. That's funny. I'm waiting for them to tack a thread about what their record is when they score more points than the opponent.

By the way, have you seen their facilities?

Would you trade their record with ours if a Trophy came with it? I think most people would.

So would we call UConn an average program the last 3 years or no? 10th in BE standings is less than impressive, let alone the fact tht they are UNDER .500. Yes, they had a good 2 weeks out of those 3 years with the best player America. But does beating Arizona, SDSU, Kentucky and Butler 4 games in a row really put them in the "upper echelon"?

I know most people will say yes (to the upper echelon question), but it's kind of funny to think about it.

But does beating Arizona, SDSU, Kentucky and Butler 4 games in a row really put them in the "upper echelon"?

Yeah, beating the team with the possible POY, a team that lost two games all year, the team with the most McD's AA's, and the previous year's finalist proved nothing.

(I know you don't think that, but the fact that some people do is amazing.)

And here's the regular season BE record since the conference expanded to 16 (not counting this year because it isn't finished yet):

Team ... W-L .... Pct

Pittsburgh ... 75-29 ... .721
Louisville ..... 71-33 ... .682
Villanova ..... 67-37 ... .644
Georgetown ... 65-39 ... .625
West Virginia . 65-39 ... .625
UConn ...... 64-40 ... .615
Syracuse ..... 64-40 ... .615
Marquette ... 63-41 ... .606
Notre Dame ... 63-41 ... .606
Cincinnati ... 44-60 ... .423
Seton Hall ... 43-61 ... .413
St. John’s ..... 41-63 ... .394
Providence ... 37-67 ... .356
Rutgers ...... 25-79 ... .240
DePaul ...... 23-81 ... .221
South Florida .. 23-81 ... .221

Basically it shows the conference to be a two-tier league, the first 9 are the haves and the last 7 are the have nots. SU has a good chance of going from tied for sixth to first at the conclusion of this BE season.

We are finally the dominant team in the conference after years at look up art Georgetown, Connecticut and Pitt.

And we're leaving.

Looking up at those teams? Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't we the winningest program in BE history, both in and out of conference? I've never felt like we've looked up at either Gtown or Pitt. Uconn, with the 3rd title last year, lays claim to being the best BE program in history. Certainly not the other two programs though.

Georgetown was the dominant program of the 80's, Connecticut of the 90's and Connecticut and Pitt in the 2000's. This decade is looking like ours but we will spend most of it in another conference. We are the winningest all-time Big East team because we are always good, not because we were ever dominant.

We've won multiple big east titles (both reg season and Conference tourney) over the last 30 years. I think "good" is really understating our position in the conference hierarchy since its inception. Bottom line, I've never "looked up" at Pitt or Gtown.

If you are just looking at BE regular season titles, I feel like we are a little light. Multiple endpoints of course, but from 1992-2009 we won 2 regular season titles. We did win the BE in 86, 87, 90, and 91, so you might be able to argue that for that stretch we were the dominant program in the conf.

I'd like to think that SU has been the most dominant team in the Big East since the conference's inception, but I have to admit that it is pretty evenly divided among Syracuse, UConn and Georgetown.

UConn has the obvious edge in NCs but the rest of the stats are all razor close between the top three.

National Championships:

Connecticut - 3
Georgetown - 1
Syracuse - 1
Villanova - 1

Final Four Appearances:

Georgetown - 4
Connecticut - 4
Syracuse - 3
Villanova - 2
Seton Hall - 1
St, John's - 1
Providence - 1
West Virginia - 1
Louisville - 1 (was L'ville in the conf. in '05? If not, strike this)

Big East Regular Season Champions (incl. co-champs):

Connecticut - 10
Georgetown - 9
Syracuse - 9

Big East Tourny titles:

Georgetown - 7
Connecticut - 7
Syracuse - 5

Big East Tourney Finals Appearances:

Syracuse - 14
Georgetown - 13
Connecticut - 10

Hmmm, where is Pittsburgh on any of these lists? NOWHERE.

Now if 'Cuse has a dream season and runs the table this year winning the BE reg. season, BE tourney, and NC? Then its just us and UConn in a veritable dead heat.

On edit: If G'town happens to have that same 'dream season' though, then it's them and UConn...

Can we pin this to the top of pitt's board?

I don't know why you would go with past 2 years plus this year? Last three years plus this year makes more sense to show the seniors records.

SU is still at the top, though obviously this year is the big difference between Cuse, Pitt and UL's Seniors:

w l
45 16 74% Syracuse
43 17 72% Pitt
41 19 68% UL
38 22 63% WVU
37 24 61% Villanova
36 24 60% Marquette
35 25 58% ND
35 26 57% Uconn
32 29 52% Georgetown
31 29 52% Cincy
27 33 45% SH
26 35 43% SJU
20 40 33% USF
19 41 32% Providence
15 45 25% Rutgers
3 57 5% DePaul

I think SU has been the most consistently good team in the BE since the conference started. We are always good, and usually very good, if not great.

But I do agree that I feel like we are rarely the dominant team. If you just looked at BE standings, I wonder how often we're the best team over say, a 3 year period. Has there been any rolling 3 year period since about 1990 or so when we've been the best team in the conference? (We're seemingly sitting in one right now, of course)

I doubt it. Off the top of my head id say our best 3 year stretch since 1990 was 2003-2005. We tied for the regular season title in 2003, and we had very good teams in 2004 and 2005. But i assume pitt or uconn (or both) had better conference records than us during that stretch. 1994-1996 is probably up there too.

This 3 year stretch from 2010-2012 is definitely our best 3 year stretch since 1990, and we've been the dominant team.

Seriously, that 3-57 mark by DePaul is awesome on so many different levels.
