With only the few Friday night games PFF already updated their initial grades after a play by play review.

Are there gaps? Like is 2nd graded a lot higher than #3? Just looking at that I would move Davis to G, sit Ellis, and find another T.

Is it normal for center to be the worst pass blocker?

After Berg the others are fairly close overall but run and pass blocking added together Ellis is the lowest. One obvious thing is that we are a better pass blocking team than run blocking. Everyone has a higher pass blocking grade than run blocking except Vett.

Don’t know. I can’t remember the first 3 games but yesterday it seemed like UVA came hard up the middle. Probably trying to make Shrader make quicker decisions.

FrancoPizza asked a good question about comparing grades to date vs last seasons grade.

Run Blocking this year vs last season.
Berg - worse by 8 pts
Vett - better by 4 pts
Bleich - worse by 7 pts
Davis - better by 4 pts
Ellis - worse by 3 pts

Pass blocking this year vs last season
Berg - worse by 2 pts
Vett - better by 1 pt
Bleich - better by 17 pts
Davis - better by 5 pts
Ellis - better by 1 pt

These lists are fine but what is the grade compared to other ACC schools? What were grades compared to other players who faced similar opponents we have? Provides context to show if anyone is really any good besides Bergeron.

Thanks for posting this. The other week you noted what their grades mapped to (good, average, etc) - do you have that info?

So with the season to date having berg as second best run blocker and best pass blocker, these stats mean that even him regressing he is still our best OL?

For the UVA game?

In the ACC for the season

Vett graded 10th at center
Bleich graded 20th at guard
Ellis graded 27th at guard
Berg graded 5th at tackle
Davis graded 19th at tackle

Yes please, if you have a moment to do so. If not, all good.

Run blocking
Berg low end of good
Ellis, Vett and Davis average towards low end of average
Bleich very low end of average near below average

Pass blocking
Bleich excellent
Berg very good
Ellis low end of good
Davis and Vett average

I don’t think it would go down well with the team, to bench kids when you're 4-0. But, what's the point of having a jumbo O-Line, if they can't blow people off the line? If it was my call -
LT - Berg
LG - Ellis
C - Ilaoa
RG - Davis
RT - E. Cruz

You’d take out completely our best run blocker to date? He’s only played 14 snaps so it’s not really fair but IIaoa grades the worst OL pass blocker on the team and is below average as a run blocker.

I don’t put as stock in these "numbers" as you do.
