I went and saw this tonight. Mel Gibson is terrific as John Link, an alcoholic ex-con on parole trying to scratch out sobriety (and a meager living) in a Trevor from GTA V type of California desert trailer park. The only bit of family he has is Kirby (William H. Macy), his AA sponsor, an ex-wife and the poster of his missing teenage daughter. An unexpected phone call leads to a reunion of father and daughter. The relief is short-lived as the two must flee to survive as trouble from her time as a runaway follows them into the desert.
Overall, a pretty solid flick that plays right to Mel's strengths as an actor. Erin Moriarty does a fine job as his daughter Lydia. I thought it was a well-paced, well-acted and enjoyable film. 3 1/2 stars.
