Detroit Lions expected to start new bowl in 2014, likely B1G vs. ACC, at Ford Field sources told @ESPN. Would eliminate Little Caesars Bowl

I can live with a 7-9th place ACC team playing a 7-9th place B1G team each year. Its better than playing MAC/AAC/MWC/CUSA teams. Plus, Detroit is a stone's throw away from Windsor, Canada and Don Cherry's bar.

Enough already with Detroit bowl games!

Why do they keep trying this?

Yuck!

Bite me.

The Motor City/Little Caesar's Bowl has actually drawn pretty well and has had some great games. I've gone to nearly all of them while I've been back in Detroit for Christmas.

Duke vs Rutgers. WOW!

Rutgers bowl eligible in the B1G in the same division as Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan State? Have fun making that bet. If they continue to schedule the little sisters of the poor they're still screwed.

Ahhhh... Detroit in December. Probably trying to take advantage of those already vacationing there!
Yes you can tour the wonderful neighborhoods of Detroit and visit the vibrant businesses...the extra days you spend there.

I can be gracious enough to give Buttgers a shot at being a 9th place team...a long shot, that is.

Have they tried it with two power conferences yet? I don't know that answer, but it just seems like whenever I think of Detroit and bowl game, I think of the MAC playing in it (Edit: Bees' post reminded me of the Cherry Bowl but in college football terms, that's a couple lifetimes ago).

I've never been to Detroit, so I can't speak to what the city is like. But I wouldn't mind going, checking out a Red Wings game while there. I would take that over a 3 block walk to watch us play a CUSA team.

The game will be between Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers, Minnesota, Michigan State on a down year, Iowa versus Syracuse, Boston College, Virginia, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh.

Woohoo. We might get to relive those Cherry Bowl memories.

You might also consider a trip to Baghdad.

I hear the city has some wonderful markets.

No worry about hotel rooms - each visiting fan gets to stay free in an abandoned house!

If they make it early enough, maybe you could catch an end-of-fall-season symphony concert. They actually have a pretty good group.

It's only a matter of time before they get a bowl too. Old Big East should get on the horn, stay ahead of it.

I think it's a mistake for them to try to pair two power conference teams in this game/location. I think Detroit is a cool city to visit for a game (nice stadiums, casinos right in town, good restaurants, etc) but I don't see the fan bases for any ACC team coming off a 7th-9th place finish type season traveling in any numbers to a bowl game in Detroit around Xmas time. The fan bases need to be easy driving distance - MAC/Big 10.

My guess is that B1G fans won't go out of their way for a Detroit trip to play a MAC team. An ACC opponent might help the B1G attendance. For the ACC part, they probably figure Pitt can get there in 4 hours, Louisville in 5.5, even Syracuse can probably be done in close to 6 with the Canada cut through.

A lesser bowl like this is rarely going to be a sellout candidate. But I can see their reasoning, not to mention pick up a few more TV viewers when you box out the MAC.

I went to that game. Drove for a couple of hours through Ontario province in a complete white out. The wind and the cold in the parking lot of Pontiac Stadium was quite memorable, even for someone who has lived in upstate NY their whole life.

I think there might have been 10K in the stands for that game against Maryland. A rematch would be very very very very very special.

Was at the Cherry Bowl.

It was empty in the cavernous Silver Dome.

The Orange hung in and my dad and I had fun.
