Chase Scanlon, Midfield, SweetLax, 2018

Scanlon had an excellent showing Sunday as he continues to emerge on the recruiting scene. We’ve seen him in the past and his performance was similar to this one. He is a lean, athletic and skilled right-handed offensive player who has incredible stick skills that help him operate with deception, excellent stick protection and high-level shooting. In the one game we watched him register an easy hat trick, his first goal came as he ran onto the field, got the ball and, after sensing that he had enough room to do it, basically just mosied into the box and accelerated into a hard running bounce shot that skipped high into the net with velocity. It looked really easy. The next time he got the ball, he worked his way inside and very deliberately skipped a sidewinding shot, but it was turned away with a good stop; still, you had to like the shot choice again. Then he got the ball, backed into his defender about 12 yards out, and a strange scenario ensued, as Scanlon dangled the stick around, toyed with the defender, leading the player to bang into him. Scanlon wouldn’t be backed down, showing more strength than his thin frame suggests. He faked a flip pass, kept it, this went on for a stretch and then finally the defender slapped on him until the head detached from the handle. So as the long pole ran off the field, Scanlon took a few steps in and wound up for a shot that beat the goalie off the hip. Then he scored a couple minutes later on a flash down the middle, catching and shooting all in one motion on the run to show off his good speed. He is a talented, intriguing prospect who could become a well known name among the young up-and-coming Iroquois players. He was the lone player we saw at the event wearing a box helmet. He would go on to show well the next weekend at the Iroquois Nationals U-19 tryout in Western New York.

Chase Scanlon, Midfield, Silver Creek High School (N.Y.)/Seneca, 2018

With a tall, thin frame Scanlon almost seems to glide around the field effortlessly. And his ability to cover ground in the open field is very impressive, especially as he barrels down on a defense with the ball in his stick. The predominately right-handed midfielder showed very well in transition, making the right decisions and not forcing the issue. When things turned to even numbers and he was asked to dodge, it wasn’t pure speed that got him an edge, but rather his ability to make contact and slip off defenders. It was hard to tell he was one of the younger attendees based on his comfort level and the pace at which he played.

14 goals is absolute insanity, stacking up to be a tremendous class from the offensive side of the ball. Magnan, Gelinas, Cook, and Scanlan. WOW

15 Who Impressed: Sweetlax Summer Invitational

Chase Scanlan, M, Sweetlax Upstate, Silver Creek (N.Y.)

"Scanlan plays a lot like a box player on the field. His big box fakes worked well enough to get his defenders to bite on the fake so he could take a shot or move the ball on. He had a very nice backhanded goal with his back to the goal in the crease area. With some work on his defense to round out his game, he’ll be even more impressive."

Season Rewind: New York Leading Scoring Leaders

Finished with 169 points on 104G/65 A. Hopefully he does indeed enroll at IMG & spends the next 2 years in their top-notch facilities/program playing against the nation's toughest schedule.

Chase Scanlan, Midfield, IMG Academy (Fla.), 2018 – Syracuse

Chase plays a really creative and fast brand of ball. He has slippery moves, using toe drags, and roll backs, constantly playing off the leverage and momentum created by his defenders contact. Tough, and resilient on his dodges, just when you think he is being bottled up is just when he has you right where he wants you. He has long legs and can run the field. His height and range allow him to see the field and he’s not afraid to make a feed across or inside after he using a hesitation to freeze a defender. A very crafty stick, he had multiple behind-the-back goals, a behind-the-back assist and was making plays with one hand while absorbing double teams. He definitely resembles a young Zeddie Williams with his size and the bounce in his step and his open-field play, where he just gets after the ball and makes plays and shows a lot of stamina, Taking a look at some of the guys in his family, look for Scanlan to fill out and become a monster threat from the midfield. The Syracuse commit could be one of the most promising in their current 2018 class.
