I understand he’s a freshman, but other than JJ, who else on this team can get their own shot? I think starting him would help the team with the slow starts and actually help Bell at the beginning of games take pressure off as the only shooter on the floor. Anyone else agree with me on this or am I on an island? It’s time.

Time to shake up the starting lineup. I've said for a while that starting Moore with Bell might help us get off to a good start with two shooters on the floor. We don't have the firepower to come from behind and when we do we run out of gas. Coach Red needs to not be stubborn and make this change which I'm sure he's heard analysts and bball experts have talked about.

I agree. Red has started Taylor, I suspect, because he’s our best defender against 2 guards and wings. He held Lanier and Shrewsberry scoreless in the first halves of those games. Mike Waters just wrote about this. But Taylor gives is nothing on offense right now. Personally, I’d go with Choppa’s offensive firepower over the defensive stalwart because we need offense and shooting, especially with Starling out.

This is my thoughts exactly.

The goal with this lineup would be to keep the opponent under 35 points before the 1st TV timeout.

at least they might score 35. The regular lineup isn’t exactly setting the world on fire.

my shakeup would be
Choppa
Taylor
Freeman
Davis
Lampkin
Either of those lineups would be a disaster. No point guard competence at all. Bell can’t handle or pass. And Taylor might be the worst offensive guards we’ve had in a while.

the offense only requires someone (the pg) to dribble the ball over half court, pass it to the wing or high post and then cut. Taylor or Moore can do that, but then they (Moore) will actually be part of the offense.

and if you haven’t noticed the lineups are a disaster now. Taylor is already starting so you’re changing out Moore for the Hofstra kid and Davis for Bell. Davis can play the four Freeman to the three.

It’s amazing how you can realize this with every single other guard on the team but not the one that starts 30 minutes a game and can’t either. All Carlos does is walk the ball up past half court, pass it away and runs to the corner or runs into a screen where he hands it off to the screener and then does said running to the corner to stand still and do nothing.

If I chose the starting lineup I’d go with

PG - Carlos
SG - Choppa
SF - Davis
PF - Freeman
C - Lampkin

JJ takes Carlos spot when he gets back.
Puts our best players on the floor to start the game. Davis may not be ideal for wing forward but he’s better than Bell.

I'd go with the following.

PG-Westry
SG-Moore
SF-Bell
PF-Freeman
C-Lampkin

Carlos is not the answer, I'd start playing him as the backup PG we brought him in to be. Westry goes 6, sits 8 then 6 to finish for both halves. That is 24/16 breakdown.

Davis first up of the bench if we need scoring or one of our forwards is being defective on defense.

Freeman gets 8 of his minutes at the 5 when we are playing both other forwards or Taylor at the 3.

Spot minutes for Petar and or Play the big stiff 4min a game zone or press I don't care.

Lampkin has to be around 26 minutes or less if we want him to survive the season. Also his minutes should coincide with the minutes Carlos is on the bench. Let Lampkin facilitate offense as much as he can when Carlos isn't in.

Taylor is your defensive specialist situationally but he can only play if at least one of Moore and Bell are on the floor.

Check his assist to turnover rate, then compare it to any of our other guards. Check this year, or career. The most important job of a point is to organize and run the offense. Other than JJ, I just don’t see anyone else who can do that.

If Westry shows anything, I’d concur. But as yet he hasn’t appeared to be ready for major minutes. But most everything else seems spot on.

You really don’t understand a pg job.

Agree that this is the lineup we would hope to get to, but Westry is just getting his feet wet and is not ready for big minutes, never mind a starter's role at this time. If Westry can step up and improve from his long layoff, maybe we can get to this in 5 to 10 games. Meanwhile, Moore absolutely has to start.
