What is to prevent a coach from leaving a school (via a buy out) and then getting his former star (or even more players) transferring to his new school to pay next year? Shaka Smart is already getting his 4* recruit to follow him, why not a starter or 2 or 3 from Texas.

The tampering rules are still in place. If they can prove someone talked to an enrolled player before they entered the portal there could be sanctions against the new team (in this case, Marquette). IIRC recruits are allowed to change schools right up until the day they enroll, so the recruit is free to go w/Shaka provided he can get into Marquette. (Like that would be a problem.)

Really, nothing. if a kid likes the coach more than the school, that is the school's problem.

Two opposing answers. Of course if a school couldn't "prove" tampering, then I suppose a player is free to go wherever they want to.

Marquette is a Jesuit school. Their academics are top-notch.
