He’s been great all year and deserves all of the accolades that he’s received. Hes been tremendous in this tournament and I thought the best player in the tournament. However, in that situation, you cannot cannot cannot take a fade away. You have to at least try to draw contact. That was such a freshman mistake.

I don’t know. I’ve seen a lot of Duke this year and he’s like 90% on that little fade away. You may be right on trying to draw contact but refs in general don’t want to blow the whistle in that last second situation. I like my chances with the shot he took.

Have to ask about that foul shot miss over-the-back on Flagg. Now, his "victim" backed into Flagg and put both his hands on Flagg's legs. Maybe even grabbed his shorts with his right hand. Is that normal?

It looked like he wanted to go to the hoop on the left baseline, but Maluach’s guy helped and forced him to the middle. The big mistake was Scheyer having Maluach in the game at all in that situation. He was terrible.

100%. I hate the "put the pressure on the refs" take. What pressure? The only pressure on them is to swallow their whistle unless there's something blatant.
It's different if you're down by 2 at home.

They blew the whistle on Flagg on that BS call on Proctor’s foul shot. That was terrible. The Houston player was the one fouling Flagg. Proctor blew it by missing the free throw, of course, and Duke also blew the inbounds with a turnover on the previous play. Unbelievable meltdown by Duke but Houston did make some incredible shots. That’s a mentally and physically tough team.

The media has been comparing him to Melo all week, so I find it fitting that he missed a turnaround mid range jumper in crunch time. That’s a shot I guarantee Melo makes. Guess there’s still only one Melo!

I like Flagg and was rooting for Duke, a team I generally dislike. But, in retrospect, it’s good that Flagg missed that shot and Duke lost because if they made it to the championship game and won, we would have the debate of who is the greatest freshman to lead a team to a championship. Melo is still and hopefully will always be the greatest.

And Melo did it as the underrated, underdog.

"From unranked to #1"

Duke, however, has been a top 5 team and getting the accolades all year and been a favorite of the talking heads to win the natty all season long.

At the end of the day, it's still a really hard thing to do no matter how good your team is or how many plaudits you have.

Duke choked for sure. It happens.

This is a good point, I need to go back and watch the play again. They also had Roberts, who has good size on him, contesting the shot.

Yeah I just went back and watched it again. Maluach is just hanging out in the dunker spot and his defender kinda just leaves him and stands in the paint. James ran through to the other corner and his defender was basically in the paint as well.

Yup. Duke choked executing against that press at the end of the game. To me, it was more about Houston’s ability to choke them. They won the game more than Duke lost it.

Yep... And Duke was worn down and tired. It was a heel-on-throat situation.

I will say the foul they called on Flagg was absolutely brutal. (when the whistle first blew I though it was gonna be on Houston) You truly hate to see it.
I have no problem with the call. It looked like a textbook blockout. Flagg was in bad position. If anything its a non call but there is no way in hell it was a foul on the Houston player.

Official was right behind Flagg. No doubt from that angle it looked worse.

I think Flagg was comfortable with that look. The lineup in the game was a little suspect but not a bad shot considering they didn't help him in any way. Movement, personnel, etc. Everyone knew he was taking the shot, and I don't think he trusted he would get a call.
Good job by Houston too.

Agreed I dont think it was a foul on Houston, I think it was a foul on neither. Just when I heard the whistle I was thinking it was gonna be on Houston. It's a no call for me as well.

Anthony Davis, per our long-time coach.
