Csonka recalls First Visit to Syracuse

The Official Website of Larry Csonka – COLLEGE TEAMMATES

Csonka has a blog on his website and in this weeks he spoke about traveling to Syracuse for the first time in July 1964 and a lifelong friend he made as a freshman at Syracuse. Good read
Thanks for sharing....great read. I was unaware that Zonk lives in Alaska, he certainly looks like he could take down a grizzly!

Love that pic of himself, Jim Kiick, and Mercury Morris. Mercury was my favorite RB growing up, and I remember how Shula brilliantly intergrated all 3 backs in those Dolphin Dynasty teams.

As freshmen, we lived on Booth 1. He used to slam open my door and pounce on me. At the end of the year during final exams, my parents drove up to get me. They waited in my room while I was still in an exam. Mom was resting on the bed when...WHAM!.....the door flew open and this very large person flew towards the bed. Mom always said that Larry stopped in mid-air when he realized I wasn't the one on the bed. lol

Good story. Was he a good guy or a bully?

A great guy. He wasn't a jock looking down on a "regular" student. He was nice to everyone. BTW, Jim Boeheim was nice to me the few times we met. We actually had a class together (can't remember what). He had one thing in common that both our dads were funeral directors. lol :)

Awesome. Csonka was my favorite football player when I was growing up even before I knew he went to Syracuse. It is nice when your heroes turn out to be geninuely good guys too...

Just due to the timing and interaction with athletes, did you know Tom Schlendorf? heavyweight wrestling National Champion, class of '67. He too was a very nice guy.
