You're 100% correct. However, we were middle of the pack before he arrived so it's not like we have this elite history. He played a huge part in getting Clemson to where they are now.I think it's more about him living with his divorced mom in motels and such for a lengthy period of time after his father's addictions caused a lot of friction. Could be wrong.
Do I feel "bad" for him with 4/5 star recruits, a bottomless supply of money and facilities and an industrial pipeline to the NFL? No. But he's had his own challenges, and he's brought Clemson to the top. He respects the history of the game (including SU greats) and he won me over with that stop in our locker room after the game last year. Hats off to him ...

Not even close. That’s why I think we can do it here. The only issue I see is lineman o and d.Funding is what it is but he did the work to get that roster to where it is today. Clemson wasn't always a 4/5 star heavy roster.
I looked back a decade or so. Clemson's recruiting rankings were top 15 in the 3-4 years before he took over as HC in 2009. It's only one ranking, but the numerical sports site has Clemson's classes ranked 15th (2005), 14th (2006) and 16th (2007), 9th as IHC (2008) and as HC (2009) 36th. Post Sweeney-HC they remain in the same range (top 20 with an occasional outlier). No lack of talent:Funding is what it is but he did the work to get that roster to where it is today. He took them from a top 20ish recruiting program to top 10/5 depending on what site you look at. That's a pretty big leap. You're talking the difference between 5-6 4 stars and getting 2-4 5 stars every class.
His 2018 class had SIX 5 stars. Tommy Bowden wasn't doing that back in 2007/2008.
Those numbers don't compare to Alabama, Georgia, OSU, FSU, and others. He's done a great job.I looked back a decade or so. NOBODY is saying Dabo isn’t doing a great job, or isn’t a great recruiter.
It’s just that the cupboard was far from bare when he got there.
Tommy Bowden didn’t GERG the Clemson program prior to Dabo’s arrival.
It is both. It is his story and Clemson's. Clemson used to be so powerless in SC government terms that it had to play SoCar in Columbia. SC state government treated Clemson as the tolerated step child. Clemson is tiny by Big Ten standards, and it is in a very small town. It is located in the northwest corner of the state, a long way from the capital. It pissed off most of the SoCar people in state government when it refused to leave the ACC with SoCarYou're 100% correct.
