But how awesome would it be to press notre dame right from the opening tip? We know nd is gonna take 30 seconds off the shot clock almost every time down, they do that anyway. I honestly believe if we pressed and play run and gun from the start we'd be up 20-5 by the 12 minute mark. I know jb would never do it, but it would be an attitude of " you, we're the best team, you cant hang with us, we're gonna run you outta your own building from the opening tip"

Instead it will probably be 8-8 at the 12 minute mark and at some point jb will call for the press to uptempo the game and we'll go on a run and win easily again, ho hum :D

I think he might press. The nice thing is, in previous years with another road game Monday night - he probably only presses if we are down 15. Now with the ability to rest players, he is much more likely to use it.

one of the issues with pressing though is the foul quick fouls you can pick up esp for the center playing goalie. I think that is why you often see the press go into effect when Keita comes in..because his fouls are not as team significant.

I think you have an interesting point about pressing with Keita in, but I also think that Keita is quicker than Fab in the middle when pressing. Keita jumps to block everything way too often - any opponent that pump fakes and jumps into him is almost guaranteed to get the foul. But I like Keita's energy, he plays with passion. I do agree, however, that Fab in foul trouble is definitely more distressing than Keita in foul trouble.

I think JB doesn't really believe in the press as a full time thing. He likes it as a change up/energizer and believes its effective for short periods of time but IMO a guy like JB who really looks at the percentages sees it as a high risk high reward tactic that is just too risky as an overall game strategy.

That being said sometimes there are teams you can press effectively all game of course those are also teams you can beat all game without pressing.

Agree. Would love to see him mix it up like that.

Pretty much sums it up. I am sure we will press for short periods of time and if it works continue for a few minutes but I doubt we will come out in the press.

I think we will see some press today for sure.

Say goodbye to the press. JB will NOT press and risk Keita picking up fouls. He has to play 35 minutes. Rak has been terrible at center and JB will not give him much play.
