David Muir named 2022 Syracuse Commencement Speaker

Ah, my annual reminder that my speaker was Robert freaking Coles, a Harvard professor.

My brother had Arthur Ashe as his so that one has had to suffice for both of us.

Mine was some woman who ran an organization I never heard of “teach for america” or something. Completely forgettable.

We were supposed to have Arthur Ashe but he passed away...Oren Lyons and meh...

There have been some great ones.

My aunt had JFK. This was a couple of years before he was elected president. Tough to beat that.

I think I had William Safire.
if you graduated in 1990 you definitely had Safire. he was good but I remember his speech being really short

Just realized that I 10000000% did not do what I needed to do in order to walk at SU Law commencement that weekend. My mother might kill me.

Ted Kennedy was mine.

When my grand-niece graduated from SU, her speaker was pretty obscure to put it mildly. In addition, whatever the polar opposite of uplifting is, he was that. That night I went through a list of previous cool commencement SU speakers with her and she felt pretty bummed by the whole thing.
