Just saw this up on CBSsportsline.com and I have to tell you that I really don't give a crap what Derrick Rose is doing on his OWN FREE TIME!!!

The media drives me crazy with this crap!

WHO CARES!!! NOT ME!!! What did Derrick Rose do that probably everyone on this board hasn't done at least once in their life?? That kind of reporting drives me nuts!

Is it me or should the media start to try and focus on a couple good stories vs always focusing on the irrelevant or negative stories?

I agree wholeheartedly. D-Rose made a mistake getting in the car with this dude, but at the same time, as you said, who hasn't done the same at some point (particularly if you went to college)?

It's a non-story.

Thing is people see a headline with "Derrick Rose" and "DUI" in it and they click the story, it draws attention and that's what journalism has come to nowadays

What if the headline was "Derrick Rose Dies in Crash"
Sure it was his "own free time" and somebody else was driving but was still an incredibly stupid thing for him to do, and could have cost him his life. And the whole "who hasn't done the same at some point" rational is pretty weak and needs to change.

I'm usually just a reader, not a poster, on this site, but sorry -- as the father of three teens that I'm constantly preaching to about the dangers of drinking and driving or getting into the car with a drunk driver, I had to say something.

You're not wrong by any means. But 1) Rose wasn't the one driving, 2) which means he might not have realized the person who was driving was THAT impaired, and 3) it's a poor excuse, but again, pretty much everyone has either willingly or inadvertently been in the car with someone who is impaired before.

Rose did nothing wrong other than getting into a car with someone who had been drinking, and again, he might not have realized just how impaired the person was. That's why it's a non-story.

Listen, I'm a parent as well and when my children get to the age that I have to preach to them about making correct choices in life I will be doing the same. I just don't think it's news worthy material reporting that a pro athlete made a bad decision and got into a car with someone who was under the influence, it's like saying...Headline...Derrick Rose seen texting while driving down I95 going 80! Both are things you say...that was dumb but do I think they are things that are news worthy..No. We can split hairs about this all day but there has to be a point where the media reports things not to just fill the page.

Last comment, and then I'm done on this. Not looking to start a fight or a long debate.

But -- I was not saying whether or not the media should have reported this.

It's the "no big deal" attitude that concerns me, because I do think it's a big deal. And, Shermthegeneral, as a father yourself, I'm sure if it was your kid in with a drunk driver, you wouldn't shrug it off as a "we all do it" or "we've all done it" attitude.

And it was still an incredibly stupid thing for D-Rose to do. These guys make a ton of money. No reason they should ever get into a drinking and driving situation. (And texting while driving is incredibly stupid too, and if he was going 80 and texting I hope it would be reported as a lesson in how stupid people can be!)

The fact he got in the car with that guy means HE was probably faced himself
