Dino's Game 8 Press Conference | Notre Dame

Babers on clock management issues against Clemson: “There was a 25 second mistake…It was bad. It's been handled internally. It won't happen again."

Babers on RB Sean Tucker’s lack of involvement: “He should have more than five carries in a football game. That’s been addressed.”

Babers compares DL Elijah Fuentes-Cundiff’s late hit penalty to a play where LB Marlowe Wax pulled up against Florida State’s Jordan Travis last year, which led to a long run. Babers says the coaching staff teaches defenders to “escort” ball carriers out of bounds. Why wasn't the same flag called later in the game? The calls were turned into the league, no response received yet.

No injury updates.

We'll need our "12th Man" against Notre Dame.

Babers on the defense’s performance against Clemson: “It was unbelievable. It’s one I wish we could have had a ‘W’ with. We also understand that we win together, we lose together.”

Babers on the No. 2 receiver position: “I can’t wait for someone to develop as the second receiver. It’s not something that’s given, it’s earned. I can’t wait for someone to earn it.”

Babers on his team’s mentality: “When we play, we’re trying to win the game. Our guys felt we had a great chance to win, and were very disappointed when we didn’t.”

Fuentes was "escorting" the QB out of bounds. He was also pushed. The flag was OK, but why wasn't the same flag called later in the day? The calls were turned into the league.

I don't get the deal with turning in things to the league. League looks at it and agrees that Trotter should have been flagged. What happens? It doesn't change the outcome of the game. Refs get a strongly worded email?

A real league/business would fine them or hold them out of key matchups / title games. Not sure that happens with the ACC. You have to submit the egregious calls.

Weird part on time management is that we'd gotten better on it all year. I thought Beck was appointed as that guy this year -- maybe Beck just assumed Dino would call the timeout. Maybe something else happened. But clearly it was an up.

The Beck appointment was a board assumption, could be partially true though.

I understand the purpose in spirit but we have been getting hosed since we joined the ACC. Nothing has changed. Keep submitting these things of course. I'm ready to change conferences.

And where would you go? The ACC is a fit for us academically, olympic sports wise and for Football/Basketball
Big 10 or whatever it is now? Makes sense regionally, athletically and pretty sure academically as well.

More than 5 carries is not clear at all about whether he is dinged up or not.
I have no idea if or to what extent he’s injured. Thats primarily board conjecture at the moment, though he did ask out of a few plays saturday.

My point is it was a mistake we did not use our running backs more.

If it is the same as ACC basketball, and I think that it is, every ref's performance is evaluated and given a type of performance or grade score. I'm sure missed/wrong calls sent in by programs (if the ref was wrong) are factored in. Those performance scores impact who gets assigned (the best always draw the highest profile assignments) and how often they are assigned.

Regionally? Iowa/Nebraska/Minnesota vs Florida/NC/Virgina? Academicslly? Majority big land grant universities vs A mix of public schools with a good amount of private schools? Athletically, Lacrosse is better ACC, Basketball is better, other sports like soccer, it’s not like we are a hockey school, Our football recruiting is 95 percent east coast especially Florida. The ACC is our home and I hope it gets to stay like it is and maybe grow a bit more in terms of offerings and maybe add a school or two

Do they list openings on their website where we can just submit a resume?
Just send a DM to the commissioner stating we are willing to swap with Rutgers.

Yeah, I mean he's the head coach for Pete's sake. He has the authority to call a time out at anytime, everyday of the week and twice on Sunday's. The whole "handling it internally" is nothing more than him simply not taking complete ownership publicly of such a significant blunder at a such a critical time. Period!

Refs aside, I like our conference. It fits the university, culture, and I like the teams we play against. Also appreciate that it doesn’t seem to want to lose it’s regional identity. If we went to the B1G, we’d have the same troubles when playing against their blue bloods anyway.
