If last year is any indication they want to be able to switch out the DL like Hockey Lines.

This is my guess.

Jaquez (Sr, 6/4, 259), Thomas (Sr, 6/6 327), Rooks (Sr, 6/5 282), Jobity (Sr, 6/4, 277)

KJE (So. 6/4, 225), Wilson (Sr. 6/5, 296), Perry (Jr. 6/3, 291), Simmons (Sr. 6/4, 260)

Nyandoro (Fr. 6/6, 265), Hastings (Jr. 6/4, 294), EFC (Sr, 6/4, 289), Pray (Fr, 6/6, 280)

David O (So, 6/3, 244) and Reese (Sr, 6/2, 240) may jump in at DE and bump guys down and around.

There are six other incoming freshmen, and who know one or more could jump up and get time, but they'd have to win jobs. They won't be forced to play because there aren't enough guys at the position. Which is nice because that hasn't always been the case.

That is some good meat but need a little bit more

Losing Marand is an absolute killer. We need another big body. Thomas was a great pickup. Perry will be close to 300 by the fall after summer S&C. Perry also is a workout warrior. Rooks has to get north of 290. Wilson should be around
after summer which is good.
Tennessee early projections for their oline will run 3 guys 335+ and 2 guys 320 plus.

Weight is one thing. Strength, speed and technique are different things and probably more important for DL.

Oh I agree but size and strength start to matter in the second half if the players you are going against have a 40 to 50 pound advantage. It's just natural wear and tear. Get two oline guys at 340 run blocking and cracking down on a 282 pound guy and by the 3rd qtr that 282 pound guy is feeling it and then speed, technique starts to go out the window. I am with you though that speed and technique can make some difference absolutely. If offense can get ahead early in the game and take the big oline out of a run game focus then our speed and technique guys can shine.

Sounds good. David O will be one of top 3 DEs IMO. Hate the Watson loss, but still good depth with Hastings and EFC “third string”

I think Thomas/Rooks/Wilson are up in the air as starters
It will interesting if they do the hockey lines again, seemed to work well last year

You have 12-14 guys that all grade similarly, nobody should have to go more than 40% of snaps. Avoid getting worn down.

Going to be interesting [and important] to see what David O, Reese, and KJE bring to the table from a pass rush standpoint. Really like Jobbity / Jacquez, but pass rush isn't the forte of either of these guys [although they can certainly both get up-field and disrupt in the backfield].

Glad Reese is so experienced. He's also older, and a grown a$s man, so I'd expect him to play a LOT. David O. has flashed play making ability, and KJE was a big recruit for us.

Also going to be interesting to see if any of the true frosh make a splash. We have lots of candidates.

Going to take a village.

But the good news is that we have a lot of guys to rotate, and not just warm bodies -- legitimate 3-deep, +.

Think about that last sentence for a minute.

I have a feeling Reese it going to get some really good additional instruction this season on one of his moves to perfect it. He used it 3 times in this highlight montage from last season.

Would love it if KJE were to add at least 10 more lbs from his 2024 listed weight of 225 lbs.
