I've only seen him and creighton play a few times. Just not getting why he is going to be a 3 time first team All American. He scores a lot, but can anyone explain what he has done against top flight competition to warrant the accolades? I doubt he would be putting up those numbers if he had any semblance of a supporting cast.

They don't play against amazing caliber, but pretty good teams, and this year's new conference realignment for them is only going to help them. They are no longer considered a Mid Major. Anyways, the guy has the best offensive skill set in the country hands down. He did last year, and he's even better this year. He has the best true shooting percentage for the past 2 or 3 years I believe (it;s what ESPN likes to talk about the most). He can basically play from any position on the floor with the ball in his hands. He can make a shot from anyhere, whether it is a deep jumper, a bunny in the paint, layups, hook shots, fadeaways, off the dribble, putbacks, from the post. He also leads the nation in Free Throw % I believe. He's got it all. He will most likely win the Wooden Award.

The dude's numbers are insane. And the Big East is a pretty solid league.
San Diego State is pretty good, won @Kansas, scored 30 points on 11-18 shooting against them.
Xavier is a top 30 team in Ken Pom, 35 points on 13-24 shooting.
He scored 41 points in 32 minutes against Wichita State last year.

To shoot as much as he does and to be as efficient as he is is ridiculous

He truly is the most efficient offensive player the nation has seen in quite some time. Nobody really compares, not even Jabari Parker.

Why did Prov kick their a$$? Is the rest of the team that bad?

I have only seen a handful of games and he has looked rather pedestrian in the ones I have seen.
News in this is Providence is looking very good again. Cooley has their program closer to sustainable success every game.

Thanks for the explanation. Hope he has a great NBA career but if things stay as they are today, he will play two games against top 25 teams all year (Nova). This reminds me of BYU winning the MNC in football in the 80s.

Kind of hope BC hires Cooley. He's an above average coach and a great recruiter.

Do people think he's going to be a good pro? I'm not sold but I admittedly haven't seen him all that much.

Yeah I'm glad for him. He has a tough gig, but you could tell he had a plan 3 years ago and its rounding into shape well. Cotton, Fortune, Batts, and Henton are all playing well.

Kind of reminds me of a soft(er) Adam Morrison. From a previous generation Jeff Turner form Vanderbilt (Orlando)

He is an old school type of player and the talent after him is a huge dropoff on that team with wragge a good shooting distant 2nd. I like his game. If they had some more talent surrounding him , with that offensive scheme, they would be a juggernaut.

Does the distinction really matter in a sport where there's a true national champion?
Seeing as how none of the last 23 champions have been a mid-major, I submit that the distinction does matter.

Not to discredit Providence, who have a good deal of talent, Grant Gibbs is a major facilitator for Creighton. A 6th year senior who is a rock solid point-forward, but he's out with a knee injury. Easily their 2nd best player.

Imagine him on our team as a sixth man?

Doug McDermott would be our sixth man? The all American, the probable Wooden award winning McDermott? Sorry, but he'd be starting.

I'd rather be Creighton, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, VCU, Wichita State, BYU etc... than many of the "majors"

Over CJ or Jerami?

Jerami wasn't even starting at the beginning of this year. So yeah.

If he was here his whole career I'm sure he would he wouldn't have lost his job this season after being an all American the year before. Plus he's a player that JB absolutely loves.

Yeah McDermott for sure would be starting over Jerami. The guy is an all american and is going to probably be POY.
