What a nice gesture by Adam. I hope he is able to sell all the tickets!
Well, the money is for the dad's medical bills. But I wouldn't put anything by the NCAA. They have no decency filter. Is there some sort of rule about fans sending money to players families after they're done - seems like you could get around a lot of rules against paying players that way
joyce can't buy the euro dudes parents a water in italy because he's playing now but we can raise a lot of money for a guy who finished playing this year?
gotta watch out unfortunately

This is a fantastic idea. If I recall correctly, I think Mrs. Dungey made a donation to the fan that had the brutal leg injury running onto the field two years ago after Clemson. This idea would raise $100k Saturday if organized correctly. Can somebody get collections going at all gates 50,000 fans on Saturday $5 bucks pets is a qtr mill

Best to check with the athletic department first...Who has the clout to get this going
Kind of like the Salvation Army Christmas pots ..

Once again, I am the poster child here. A booster cannot give money to a former player because of the possibility that it might be some how construed as paying him for his services at the school. A few years ago, when a former player was having a hard time financially, I was told I could not help him financially. Finally, I was allowed to buy him some clothes that he needed for a new job. I did not give him money for the clothes; I literally took him shopping and bought the clothes for him with my credit card. His entire wardrobe had literally consisted of sweats and sneakers ... and he could not begin the job without proper clothing. I would hope that medical expenses would come under the same category as necessary clothing.
interesting. instead of wasting money on facilities, programs with money should just start buying cars and houses for players who do well. recruits will figure out the pattern no need for agreements. You can do anything you want once a player graduates. You can buy him a mansion. As long as they can't trace the agreement was made during your time as a student-athlete.

it's like ex politicians taking cushy jobs in industries after taking care of them while in office. no need to risk getting traced, everyone knows what they're supposed to do without having to say or write anything

Yup. My guess is the advice cto got was simply a conservative interpretation of the booster rules. I can’t find anything that prohibits a booster from donating to a former player. But from a Syracuse standpoint, with our history, I could see how the compliance dept would interpret the gesture as a possible violation and nix the idea. UnfortunateWho was the compliance person that gave you this interpretation? Whoever it is is probably extremely risk averse. Also, as ‘bees said, how do you draw the line? I don’t think I buy this as a rule but rather as something someone may not have wanted to see happen. There’s just no way you could say it’s ok for a graduate out of school for 10 years but not 5, when the graduate from 5 years needs more help. There are plenty of things going on around the country from other programs that would pale in comparison.
