Do the coaches at Syracuse not teach proper mechanics when throwing the ball. U would think that would be first thing done then playbook and what not. I saw Dungey throw off backfoot a ton but figured he just did it naturally. proper Mechanics need to be first thing they learn. Am I wrong in thinking that.

They purposely teach improper mechanics- but not until after the playbook.

I made a commment in an other post that he never engaged his lower body in throws. I would be hard pressed to believe he wasn’t aware of this. My guess is he got away with it in college and his trainers showed him relgiin on how that would t be sustainable in the pros.

Tebow had terrible mechanics in college I'm sure they tired to work with him just like our coaching staff worked with Dungey to get it right.
At the end of the day you can't mess with a kid to much or it will make it much worse.

Facts ... unless you start young you can’t overhaul mechanics in any sport , muscle memory is to engrained . Footwork can be helped more than throwing motion . Private coaches help more because they have more time and are specialist . But usually it’s not enough reps and again to late to change muscle memory. People are often to delusional to think everyone can be corrected.
You think babe Ruth was taught how to hit ?
Someone teach jim brown to run ? It’s god given talent more than coached talent .

Yep it's easy to do it in drills, for the most part, as soon as the fast pace of the game hits you tend to revert back to what you are comfortable with.
Correct because when it’s live you can’t think about it , muscle memory takes over . It takes a total commitment to change or alter things Tommy for example had a throwing session with his long time coach Thursday they are going for breakfast as we speak to watch drone footage of what they worked on . If Tommy doesn’t constantly work on the little things they want to improve than Thursday’s session was a waste of time . Coaching staffs only have limited time with the players they have so much to do they literally work twice as long as the average persons job .

As always, look to Mike Leach for truth:

“People make this mistake all over the country, and everybody can think of one, but there will be a guy who is big, strong and athletic, and everyone gets tempted by speed and if someone has a super strong arm.”

Then they say ‘Well all he has to do is work on his accuracy. Well ok. He won’t be accurate in high school. Then some college will take him, and then he won’t be accurate there, and then the NFL says ‘all he has to do is work on his accuracy,’ and they’ll take him there, and he won’t be accurate there and then he’ll be out of the league.”

“The thing that’s amazing to me, is that after all of high school he’s not accurate, and now all of a sudden you’re special and you’re going to make him accurate? And then after college he’s not accurate, and you’re special and you’re going to make him accurate? I just haven’t seen that happen. I’ve seen guys improve, but they don’t all of a sudden become accurate.”

“The other thing is, you can go grab a shortstop and teach him to play quarterback easier than you can make someone accurate.”

Muscle memory is everything. If you've been a 12 handicap golfer your whole life, it's incredibly difficult to become a 2 or 3 handicap. Muscle memory ends up taking over, leading to the same mistakes that one has always made.

So what's what's your point other than doubling down with your ED hate?

I don't think anyone here hates him. I love what he did for Syracuse. But you jumped on anyone who had any doubts about his pro prospects and some of their observations and concerns about his passing seem to be turning out to be true. Doesn't mean I and others aren't cheering like hell for him. It would only be good for Syracuse and a great kid if he made it.

I completely understand and agree with your post...except, there are a few "fans" who openly rooted against ED.

And to the Leach's point...statistically, Dungey wasn't inaccurate.

Statistically - Dungey was no less accurate in college than a lot of guys who got drafted, and some of whom ended up having very good Pro careers.

Leech statement isn’t completely accurate, while I get what he is saying and agree mostly
There are always varying factors O line , skill people Around you and play calling . Impossible to compare players from other teams and systems and especially eras . Imagine Dan Marino in today’s NFL !
