I think he needs one more season to work on his offense and lock himself in as a lottery pick. Not sure where he is projected right now, but I think it would be a tremendous help for his future in the league to stay one more year.

That being said, the way he runs the pick n roll and dives to the basket for the alley oop jam is NBA status. Reminds me alot of Tyson Chandler.

That being said, if we start featuring him on offense and he improves down the stretch....

One area for improvement that I could see up close last night was his play with his back to the basket. He took one wild turnaround jumper in the paint that I don't think caught any rim. Improved post play would certainly help his draft stock.

Looked from my view that he got hit on the arm. Wasnt sure but the shot came off like he got hit. Still agree that he needs to work on it.

Got hit on the arm when playing Pitt? Impossible.

I don't know how good he is right now because the refs let him get mugged repeatedly.

Did you take that photo? The area looks vaguely familiar to me, but I was in Ireland 5 years ago, so I could just be making it up in my head.

I think he needs to do what he wants to do without regard to what SU "fans" think he should do.

Obviously. This is a message board. I dont think he comes on here and tells Boeheim hes coming back next year because Longislandcuse said I need to work on my offensive game.

No I did not. It is a fairly common photo to see around.

Melo is very valuable for us on Defense and rebounding. Having said that, i don't want him shooting anything other than dunks and layups right now. He's been trying to do other things recently like a hook shot (NBA?), but he's not there yet. The other thing he has to work on is holding on the ball stronger after he gets a rebound-There are so many times when get s a good rebound then has the ball knocked away. That is not to take way how important and huge he has been to this team.

I've said this before but he'll be 22 this year. I'm not sure that either he nor the NBA want him to enter the league at 23 (or 24 if he were to stay all four years). He has a ways to go offensively. He doesn't present himself well for entry passes and he doesn't finish well around the rim. Still he has improved a lot just since the start of the season and his upside is huge. If he keeps up his in-season growth curve, there are a lot of NBA teams that will be willing to pay him big bucks to come out after this season.

Has to improve his upper body strength before he could make it in the NBA. I hate thug ball but the thugmeisters repeatedly stripped him last night because he's simply not strong enough to consistently beat off the grabs at this stage.

If you think Pitt is physical and grabbing, the NBA is ten times worse. They let a lot more contact go uncalled. Melo will develop a lot more with another year at SU. But it will depend how he plays in the big post season games in the BET and NCAAT in front of the NBA scouts. If he has a couple of big games on the big stage he'll probably be gone...if not he'll be back.

I love the butt-hurt fans still whining about Pitt's physical play. My lord... how long have you been watching college hoops? Just start yesterday?

I thought he was pretty bad last night, despite his line. You never want to see 5 or 6 turnovers from your center; he also had trouble rebounding (he wasn't the only one guilty of this though), fouled out and took some dumb shots.

I really want to see him against Drummond.

Age won't be as big of a deal with Fab since he hasn't played basketball that long. His wear and tear is much less than some kid playing ball since he was 5.

Agree that if he keeps getting better this season, it won't really matter. He will get drafted.

Actually, I think it's the longtime fans who are disappointed with what the game has become. No one who regularly watched college hoops in the 1980s and 1990s could watch these Pittsburgh or Marquette games and note that something isn't wrong.

It's only in the last decade that post-play has become football and all players have taken to wearing pads on the court.

I disagree. Teams in college get away with way more than is allowed in the NBA.

No doubt he's a work in progress but if he can get guaranteed money he should go. He'll have plenty of time to work on his game. Donte Green did suffer and realized it- still you've got to get the money while you can. They draft on potential not on accomplishments.

This is true. The NBA has almost totally eliminated all the extra hand-checking that the NCAA still let's slide. Post play is also a lot cleaner in the NBA and a much more open floor (even with bigger and stronger athletes). The NCAA has let too many things slide, and aren't making enough of an effort to clean the game up.

Because of this, teams like Pitt, Marquette, Louisville, etc. thrive on making it an ugly game. Clutch and grab defense, bump and hold the cutters, guards slapping at hands of post players and most of it goes uncalled.

Yep. Which is why we got a championship game ruined last year.

NCAA is raking in the dollars and doesn't seem to be interested in improving the quality of play. I don't see this changing, but I'll be happy to never see Nasir Robinson again.

His bunny shots and half way there hooks won't cut it in the NBA. of course, they aren't cutting it here, either. His improvement this year has been on defense. I hope to see similar improvement on offesne next eyar. No way we have hm as a senior.

Maybe he would be perfectly happy playing pro in Brazil?

I'm not seeing the Tyson Chandler thing at all. They play completely different styles. Chandler is an athletic, shot blocking freak without much by way of an offensive game. Fab is a solid athlete, not spectacular, very good shot blocker but has the makings of a good all around offensive game. Good passer, and he has the ability to knock down 10-15 footers.
