Welcome to Baby Boomers Recognition Day!

Baby Boomers Recognition Day is dedicated to baby boomers, the generation that was born between roughly the years of 1946 and 1964. There was an uptick in births during this time, which was spurred by an economic boom and a longing for a return to normalcy after the Great Depression and war. Early baby boomers came of age during the Summer of Love and Woodstock, and grappled with issues such as the Vietnam War during a time of great social change. In general, early baby boomers tended to be more liberal than later baby boomers, although many early baby boomers' politics shifted towards the right in the 1980's. To date, three United States Presidents have been baby boomers: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump. Their varying ideologies demonstrate that the views of baby boomers are not monolithic...

Pros, cons of 6 schools on Syracuse basketball target Joe Girard's final list (PS; Waters)

Joe Girard III is a 6-foot-1 guard from Glens Falls, N.Y. He is a Top 100 rated recruit in the 2019 class.

Girard averaged 50 points per game last year for Glens Falls High School. He broke the New York State scoring record previously held by Lance Stephenson. His career total is at 3,306 points heading into his senior year.

His story has been nothing short of a fairy-tale.

Girard received scholarship offers from numerous schools, but he has narrowed his list down to six choices.

Here is a look at each school on Girard with the pros and cons for each.

Boston College: The pros
The biggest pro for Boston College is its proximity to Girard's hometown. It's an easy two-and-half hour drive, spent mostly on the Mass Pike, from Glens Falls to Chestnut Hill.
Boston College coach Jim Christian's rebuilding efforts have begun to bear fruit as the Eagles went 7-11 in the ACC last year.
Christian's program is founded on perimeter shooting with players like Jerome Robinson, Jordan Chatman and Ky Bowman (pictured).
The real good news for Girard is that Chatman, a 6-5 wing, will graduate after the upcoming season and Bowman, a 6-2 junior, is a likely NBA draft candidate. That means potential playing time right away for Girard.

Boston College: The cons
It has been a long time since Boston College experienced any real success, especially in terms of the postseason. The Eagles' last appearance in the NCAA tournament was in 2009 and their last win in the NCAA tourney was in 2007.
So Girard might be able to go play right away at BC, but he'll face long odds at ever playing in the Big Dance.

Syracuse hoops fills last opening in schedule with school it's never played before (cnycentral.com; Tamurian)

Three days before Christmas, Syracuse Basketball will welcome a school to the Carrier Dome for the first time.

Arkansas State from the Sun Belt Conference fills the last hole in the Orange schedule when they arrive for a Saturday game on December 22.

While the schools have never played, there is some familiarity between the two as Arkansas State is led by Mike Balado who was an assistant coach at Louisville.

The Red Wolves were 11-21 last season but return a potent back court combination in Ty Cockfield and Grantham Gillard.

With the addition of Arkansas State, Syracuse knows all of its opponents during the 2018-2019 season (there is one game that's uncertain as they will meet Oregon or Iowa in the 2K Sports Classic in New York City depending on how their first game with UConn goes).

The ACC foes the Orange will meet were set back in June, the conference is expected to announce dates for those games in the coming weeks.
