Syracuse center Bourama Sidibe has a seat at an influential college basketball table (Ps; $; Ditota)

Bourama Sidibe has a seat at a table reserved for a select number of college basketball players tasked with providing valuable feedback to coaches as the sport attempts to play its 2020-21 season.

Sidibe, Syracuse’s senior center, serves on the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Player Development Coalition. The panel includes Evan Battey (Colorado), Armando Bacot (North Carolina), Keion Brooks, Jr. (Kentucky), Kale Catchings (Harvard), Collin Gillespie (Villanova), Corey Kispert (Gonzaga), Joshua Langford (Michigan State), Wendell Moore, Jr. (Duke), RJ Nembhard (TCU) and John-Michael Wright (High Point).

The players were selected by their coaches, all of whom serve on the NABC’s Ad Hoc Committee on college basketball. Those coaches: Tommy Amaker (Harvard), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Tad Boyle (Colorado), John Calipari (Kentucky), Jamie Dixon (TCU), Mark Few (Gonzaga), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Tubby Smith (High Point), John Thompson III, Roy Williams (North Carolina) and Jay Wright (Villanova).

Sidibe said he has met virtually with his fellow players several times since he learned he would be part of the effort in late July or early August. The talks are organized and moderated by NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson; the NABC’s Troy Hilton facilitates them. But the players, too, sometimes identify an idea or a problem, alert everybody else on the committee and have conversations without NABC intervention.

Orange Watch: The amazing longevity of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim - The Juice Online (the juice; Bierman)

Item: Soon to begin preseason practice (October 14) for his 45th season as head coach, and with a couple of years remaining on his contract, there’s no telling how long Boeheim will keep guiding the ‘Cuse. Rejuvenated by coaching his son Buddy, taking the leadership rein guiding his players/staff through preparation changes and schedule alterations in the throes of a national pandemic, and as usual, stacking up future rosters with top-level recruits, Boeheim, who will turn 76 in November, may just end up retiring as an octogenarian with a half century of stalking the Manley and Dome sidelines.

Could we see a golden anniversary for Jim Boeheim as Orange boss with a head-shaking 50 seasons as the head coach at one program?

After this upcoming campaign, that’s only four seasons away (2025-26). Even with Buddy Boeheim’s on-course eligibility schedule expiring after the next season is completed – 2021-22, the SU junior guard could theoretically be a graduate assistant coach under his father for a year while pursuing an advanced degree, and that would be just three years removed from a 50th season as head coach.

Boeheim’s close friend and the all-time leader in victories, Mike Krzyzewski, is going into his 41st straight season at Duke (after his first five years coaching at Army), but is Coach K going to be around nine more years at his current age 73?

ACC Recruiting: Georgia Tech Gets A Promising Guard (DBR; King)

Georgia Tech has picked up an interesting recruit over the weekend: Miles Kelly (2021), a 6-5 combo guard currently playing for Hargrave, chose the Yellow Jackets over schools like NC State, Miami and Wake Forest (among others). Wake has already picked up three guards, 6-4 Robert McCray, 6-3 Carter Whitt and 6-5 Cameron Hildreth, who committed over the weekend.

That many guards probably ruled Wake out.

Kelly is thin, which is no great surprise for a high school kid, and pretty athletic. He has an odd shot which starts kind of low and will be harder to do in college. No doubt Josh Pastner will urge him to modify it with a higher release.

His release and weight should improve. The best news for Tech is some offensive talent, something they haven’t had a lot of lately.
