Welcome to International Beer and Pizza Day!

International Beer and Pizza Day celebrates the food combination of beer and pizza. Both of these foods are enjoyed all around the world, and there are many varieties of each. Beer is made at small craft breweries and big corporate ones. It is drunk at bars, at get-togethers, at breweries, and at sporting events. Pizza is made at small family pizzerias and big national chains and can be purchased frozen in grocery stores. It is enjoyed at parties, by the slice while on the go, and as a simple meal at home.

Although foods have long been paired, the combination of pizza and beer is a relatively new concept. They go well together because their flavors enhance and contrast with each other. Certain beers pair better with certain pizzas, and the explosion of craft beer has helped with pairings. Lighter and crisper beers, like pilsners and pale ales, go with lighter pizzas, such as those topped with fresh veggies or chicken. The mildness of pilsners goes well with many pizzas, and the slight bitterness of pale ales contrasts well with lighter pizzas. Sour beers pair well with lighter pizzas as well. Darker beers such as stouts and porters go well with heartier, meatier pizzas. IPAs also go well with heartier pizzas, their hoppiness complementing the flavors of the meat and cheese.

Syracuse basketball moves up 3 seed lines in latest ESPN bracketology (itlh; Adler)

Syracuse basketball would square off with Arizona of the Pac-12 Conference in the round of 64 within Joe Lunardi’s new bracketology.

It seems that Syracuse basketball is growing on ESPN’s Joe Lunardi as the 2020-21 campaign inches closer to fruition. Lunardi has released a new version of his bracketology, and the Orange’s position in the field of 68 has improved.

About two months ago, Lunardi cast the ‘Cuse as a No. 11 seed and playing former Big East Conference rival Marquette, also a No. 11 seed, in the 2021 NCAA Tournament’s First Four.

This week, Lunardi arranges Syracuse basketball as a No. 8 seed in the West Region, where it would suit up versus No. 9 seed Arizona out of the Pac-12 Conference in the round of 64. This would prove an intriguing match-up, as the Orange and the Wildcats haven’t played each other since 1995, according to orangehoops.org.

Syracuse basketball offers Gavin Griffiths, Donovan Clingan AAU partner (itlh; Adler)

Syracuse basketball continues to expand its offer sheet in the 2023 class, pledging a scholarship to promising prospect Gavin Griffiths.

Gavin Griffiths is a talented wing in the 2023 class who runs on the AAU circuit with 2022 four-star center Donovan Clingan, and now they both have a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball.

For some time, the Orange has made the 7-foot-1 Clingan, a junior at Bristol Central High School in Bristol, Conn., a high-priority target within the ‘Cuse 2022 recruiting cycle.

Clingan also competes for AAU squad Team Spartans, a Boston-based group. One of his colleagues on Team Spartans is Griffiths, a 2023 shooting guard/small forward. By the way, here’s a recent article on this AAU crew.

Griffiths, a 6-foot-7 sophomore who attends the Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn., landed his offer from Syracuse basketball earlier this week, he disclosed on his Twitter page.

ACC Preview #15: Duke, Part III (DBR; King)
  • Part I
  • Part II
The rest of the country and people who don’t follow Duke closely won’t necessarily understand this, but one of the great joys of following Duke is the roster adjustments.

We’ve all seen it: the lineup is introduced and out comes someone unexpected.

Take 1991, when it was Greg Koubek. Huh? Or 2010, when Jon Scheyer moved to the point and Brian Zoubek moved in at center.

It happens on a pretty regular basis, typically in ACC play, and usually, although not always, it makes a huge difference.

Last year we might have seen it in a wonderful way as Justin Robinson surged late in his senior year. Alas, we’ll never know.

There are probably three things you can look for on a good Mike Krzyzewski team: versatility, defense, and we’ll get back to #3 when the kids have gone to bed.

UNC Basketball: Will this 2022 guard be the next Tar Heels’ offer? (keepingitheel.com; Pearson)

Will this 2022 four-star guard be the next player to receive an offer from the UNC Basketball recruiting class down the line? It looks like it

With the options dwindling a bit for the UNC Basketball program in terms of the 2021 recruiting class, Roy Williams and his staff are starting to also focus on the 2022 class.

They currently have a total of four offers out to recruits in the 2022 recruiting class and will know their fate for five-star guard Skyy Clark later this month. But a new target might be on the Tar Heels’ radar in that class.

Five-star combo guard Nick Smith Jr. is starting to draw a lot of interest in his recruitment and that includes a few big programs. The Arkansas native is currently ranked as a four-star recruit per 247 Sports and the interest is starting to grow.

Halloween in the 80s: Did you visit Oscar the monster at Switz’s? (Photos) (PS; $; Croyle)

If you grew up in the 1980s, especially in the suburbs north of Syracuse, a trip to Switz’s was a must in the run up to Halloween.

The store had everything to make your Halloween a successful one: makeup demonstrations, candy-making demonstrations, party goods, cards, candy, and, of course, aisles and aisles of masks and costumes.

Before it became Central New York’s “Halloween Headquarters,” Switz’s was founded as a "five-and-dime' store in 1947 at its location at Brighton Avenue and South Salina Street.

In 1954, founder Mark Switz opened a North Syracuse location and closed the downtown shop.
