Welcome to Administrative Professionals Day!

Administrative Professionals Day, also known as Secretaries' Day or Admin Day, recognizes the work of secretaries, receptionists, administrative assistants, and other administrative support professionals. Employers and supervisors organize events for these workers on the day, and workers are often given cards, flowers, chocolate, and lunches. In the United States, the day takes place during Administrative Professionals Week, which occurs during the last full week of April. The holiday is celebrated in work environments around the world.

After the United States entered World War II, there became a shortage of skilled administrative workers. This was because there had been a lowered birth rate during the Great Depression, and because of a new booming economy with many open jobs. In 1942, the National Secretaries Association was formed to recognize the contributions administrative personnel gave to the economy, to bring workers into the field, and to support their development. The National Secretaries Association changed its name to the Professional Secretaries International in 1981, and to the International Association of Administrative Professionals in 1998.

How Syracuse's rotation could shake out: Version 1.0 of our projection (theathletic.com; $; Gutierrez)

Four outgoing transfers. A graduation. Three incoming transfers and a freshman. Phew. Most of the movement of the Syracuse offseason has transpired, and we have now arrived at the point where we may look toward next season.

For the most part, the Syracuse roster for 2021-22 is set. There might be a change or two in the coming months. The status of forward Quincy Guerrier is pending. But it is a good time to consider how coach Jim Boeheim might structure his rotation, and the possible lineups SU might run with. The season opener is a mere seven months away.

Let’s begin this exercise with a situation where Guerrier, who is testing the NBA Draft waters, does not return for his junior season. (I think there’s a 50-50 chance he comes back.) Here’s that depth chart below. (Shameless self-promotion: My predictions about the 2020-21 rotation were on point, almost.)

Guards: Joseph Girard, Buddy Boeheim, Symir Torrence
Wings/forwards: Jimmy Boeheim, Benny Williams, Cole Swider
Bigs: Bourama Sidibe, Jesse Edwards, Frank Anselem

Here’s my guess at how Jim Boeheim will set up the rotation, with projected starters listed first. Given historical trends that he usually runs with seven or eight deep at most:

PG: Girard, Torrence
SG: Buddy Boeheim
SF: Williams, Swider
F: Jimmy Boeheim
C: Sidibe, Edwards

Former Syracuse forward Oshae Brissett signs 3-year contract with Indiana Pacers (report) (PS; $; Curtis)

Former Syracuse basketball player Oshae Brissett has signed a three-year contract with the Indiana Pacers, according to a report from J. Michael of the IndyStar.

Brissett, a 6-foot-8 forward, proved during his two 10-day contracts with the Pacers that he’s worthy of a spot in the NBA by showing his versatility as the franchise deals with the injury bug.

Brissett averaged 4.8 points on 68% shooting in a little over 8.2 minutes per game during his non-guaranteed time with the franchise. He made his first career start on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs and impacted the game by drawing an offensive foul, defending well and shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point line.

Before joining the Pacers, the former Orange forward had a commendable season in the G-League where he averaged 18.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 12 games with the Fort Wayne Mad Antz. He also earned 2nd team All G-League honors last season.

In the 2019-20 season, Brissett appeared in 19 games and averaged 7.1 minutes with the Toronto Raptors, who signed him on a two-way contract. He was waived by the Raptors in December.

30 Minutes In Orange Nation 4-20 (ESPN; 30 minutes in Orange Nation; Steve & Paulie)

Steve and Paulie start the show in shock of the news that Syracuse Lacrosse star Chase Scanlan is being suspended indefinitely. Then, they discuss just how different next season’s Syracuse Men’s Basketball roster will look from this past year’s Sweet Sixteen team. Later, the hosts have strong opinions on some of Syracuse Women’s Basketball Coach Quentin Hillsman’s comments about the transfer portal.

Men's Basketball Adds Transfer Justin McKoy - University of North Carolina Athletics (goheels.com)

Justin McKoy, a 6-8 forward from Raleigh, N.C., has signed a scholarship agreement with the men's basketball team to attend the University of North Carolina.

McKoy played in 33 games over the past two seasons at the University of Virginia. He is a 2019 graduate of Panther Creek High School in Cary, N.C.

McKoy started four of 19 games for the Cavaliers this past season, scoring 67 points with 62 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. He scored a career-high 11 points and had six rebounds against San Francisco, had eight points and six rebounds against Miami and six rebounds in the ACC Tournament against Syracuse. He shot 48.3 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line.

He earned Academic All-ACC honors as a Cavalier.

"I've always wanted a player like Justin," says Carolina head coach Hubert Davis. "He's a versatile 4, someone who can play small and power forward. When we scout other teams, that has been one type of player that has caused us problems. A player who can post up a smaller guy or take a bigger defender out on the perimeter and drive or shoot. Defensively, Justin has the ability to switch all ball screens, is a great rebounder and plays with tremendous effort. I will never have to coach effort with him. I think he's a great player, but an even better kid. He loves to work hard, cares about people and about being a great teammate and he loves his family. His parents have always been Tar Heel fans and this is a place where he wants to be."

Duke's Henry Coleman enters the transfer portal - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

A busy offseason for Duke basketball continues to move and shift. On Tuesday, freshman power forward Henry Coleman announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

During his freshman season, Coleman appeared in 19 games: 5.0 minutes per contest. In a deeper reserve role, the 6-foot-7 Coleman averaged 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. While Coleman never found a consistent role in a crowded frontcourt — even after the departure of Jalen Johnson — he flashed interesting two-way potential. Coleman is incredibly strong; he also has the ability to be a solid team defender.

A former top-50 prospect, Coleman posted a block rate of 6.6 percent this season.

With Coleman joining Jaemyn Brakefield in the transfer portal, Duke’s 2020 recruiting class is down to only two remaining players: point guard Jeremy Roach and center Mark Williams. DJ Steward joined Johnson with his decision to declare for the 2020 NBA Draft.

When Matthew Hurt declared for the draft, too, it seemed as though Coleman would have a role carved out behind Williams and incoming 5-star forward Paolo Banchero. Coleman could be a sub for either player and split time at the 4 and 5.

However, that’s no longer the case. Late last week, Duke also landed Marquette transfer big man Theo John, a veteran shot-blocker.

Onondaga County launches gift cards that offer restaurants a ‘$1 million shot in the arm’ (PS; $; Cazentre)

Onondaga County today launched a gift card program aimed at giving up to a $1 million boost to local restaurants who have suffered severe financial losses since the Covid-19 pandemic began 14 months ago.

The program, called “Keeping It Local,” also enables customers to double their money when they participate.

Here’s how it works: Customers can visit the county’s Keeping It Local web site (which went live at 10:30 a.m. today.) There they can buy gift cards for any of 174 participating restaurants (see more details and list below).

Customers pay anywhere from $25 to a maximum of $100 for a card. That automatically triggers a matching amount paid by the county to the restaurant. That is added to the value of the customer’s card.

So a customer who pays $50 for a card receives $100 in value at the restaurant. A $100 card generates $200 at the restaurant.

Onondaga County is setting aside $500,000 for its matching payments to the restaurants. That money comes from a pot of $142 million in federal stimulus money, state grants and other funds the county has recently received to boost the local economy as the pandemic winds down.
