Welcome to National Bratwurst Day!

National Bratwurst Day is dedicated to bratwursts—sometimes simply known as brats—which are sausages made from pork, veal, or beef, that contain sweet spices and seasonings such as nutmeg. They originated in Nuremberg, Germany, in the 14th century, and their name is derived from the German words "braten", meaning "to fry" or "to roast", and "wurst", meaning "sausage". There are over forty varieties of brats made in Germany, and they are many times served on a roll with mustard. They are also quite often accompanied by sauerkraut and potato salad. They were introduced to the United States in the mid-19th century by German immigrants, and have become especially popular in Wisconsin.

How to Observe National Bratwurst Day

National Bratwurst Day should be celebrated by eating brats. If you happen to be in Wisconsin, you could visit Johnsonville, the largest sausage maker by revenue in America. You could also stop at one of these establishments for a brat. If a trip to Wisconsin is not possible, make some of their "beer brats" at home.

Taylor, Copeland Teaming Up at IMG is Great for Syracuse Basketball (SI; McAllister)

Two Syracuse commits are headed south to wrap up their high school careers, and that is tremendous news for the Orange basketball program. Shooting guard commit Justin Taylor announced his decision to transfer to IMG Academy for his senior season, and will join point guard Quadir Copeland at the school. Copeland announced his transfer back in April.

"Quadir and I can't wait to starting playing together and build this chemistry before we even get to Cuse," Taylor said.

Both Taylor and Copeland will join the Syracuse program in the summer of 2022. They will play for the Orange beginning the 22-23 season. Joining forces at IMG before that begins gives them a leg up on learning how to play together, play off of one another and developing on-court chemistry. Having a full year to help hit the ground running when they arrive will only benefit the Syracuse basketball program.

Backcourt mates can play a large role on successful teams. Taylor and Copeland want to be a big part of the future of Syracuse basketball. They can start those building blocks at IMG.

Syracuse Basketball: Total nonsense Jim Boeheim won’t get 101 wins back (itlh; Adler)

Collegiate athletics is entering a vast new era, with name, image and likeness permitted, a uniform one-time transfer policy and the potential of further conference realignment, but it doesn’t appear that Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim will get his 101 vacated victories back.

It’s utterly ridiculous, in my humble opinion, and I bet that the bevy of Orange fanatics will agree with me here.

In a recent article by The Associated Press on former Southern California star running back Reggie Bush, the NCAA said in a statement that “Previous penalties, including those that are several years old, will not be re-evaluated or reconsidered based on the recent changes to NIL rules.”

As most ‘Cuse fans know, Boeheim was docked 101 wins by the NCAA, as well as other penalties including recruiting limitations for several years, after a long investigation found that the Syracuse basketball program violated certain NCAA rules for a duration of multiple years.

Syracuse basketball boss Jim Boeheim won’t get his wins back, and it’s absurd.

I fully acknowledge that I’m an Orange homer. And, yes, the ‘Cuse hoops team did break NCAA rules. But the punishment, from my perspective, didn’t align with the rules that were broken.

The DEC aquarium at the NYS Fair, stocked with a cross section of native, freshwater fish, is among the fair's most popular displays.

DEC presence at NYS Fair will be limited to the Aquarium Building (PS; $; Figura)

Many of the favorite displays and offerings by the state Department of Environmental Conservation will be back this year at the NYS Fair, but everything will be found in the Aquarium Building.

Previously, DEC had several displays in the Exposition Building. Not this year.

In the Aquarium Building, fairgoers will be able to see native freshwater fish, frogs and turtles in the huge aquarium, which consists of several fish tanks.

Fishing, hunting and trapping licenses will once again be sold there and the walls will be adorned by record fish mounts and some taxidermy mounts of gamebirds and mammals, according to DEC.

“We will feature several ‘Ask the Biologist’ stations to help people learn about the best places to fish for trout, how to apply for a deer management permit, and how to sign up for DEC newsletters,” DEC said. “There will also be bones, antlers, feathers, and hides so we can teach families about different animals they may encounter across the State.”

State Environmental Conservation Police Officers and Forest Rangers, representatives from the state Hunter Education and the Conservationist magazine will also be there to talk to fairgoers.

Finally, free tree seedlings will be passed out each morning.
