Welcome to Veterans Day!
Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor all American veterans of war. On November 11, 1918, a cessation of hostilities, or armistice, between the Allied Powers and Germany took place. With this armistice, fighting during World War I ended, and the stage was set for a treaty to be signed formally ending the war. On June 28, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed. On the first anniversary of the armistice, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the day as Armistice Day, and said, "To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations." At this time celebrations were marked with parades and public meetings, as well as brief pauses in business at 11:00 AM, the time at which the armistice had taken place in 1918.
On June 4, 1926, Congress passed a concurrent resolution that requested that the President issue a proclamation for the day; it also called on officials to display the flag on government buildings, and invited the public "to observe the day in schools and churches, or other suitable places, with appropriate ceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples."

Is Syracuse center Jesse Edwards’ jersey number an homage to a soccer legend? (Mike’s Mailbox) (PS; $; Waters)
It’s not the name on the back of the jersey that matters, it’s the name on the front.
That old sports cliché is being put to the test in this week’s Mike’s Mailbox.
We’ve got questions about players’ jerseys, the names on the jerseys and the numbers on their jerseys.
This is going to be fun, so let’s get to those questions.
Q: Jesse Edwards’ number is 14. Johan Cruyff’s number was 14. Is that why he took the number?

Mike: Jesse Edwards, Syracuse’s junior center, is from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Johan Cruyff led the Netherlands to soccer prominence in the early 1970s. He took the Netherlands to the 1974 World Cup championship game. He is considered one of the greatest footballers in the history of the sport.
But Cruyff’s playing career ended in 1984. Jesse Edwards was born in 2000.
Could Edwards’ No. 14 jersey really be an homage to the Danish soccer great, who passed away in 2016?
“Yeah, it is,’’ Edwards said. “He grew up around 300 feet from my house. It’s the same neighborhood. There’s a huge painting of him on the wall. He’s a legend around there. I usually wore 14 when I was young and that’s the reason I’m wearing it now.’’
With this bit of news, I’m thinking when Edwards scores a basket this season, instead of saying “Thunder from Down Under,’’ the Dome PA announcer should just go with “Gooooooooaaaaal!!!!!’’
And if Otto’s Army doesn’t bring back the “Ole! Ole!’’ cheer during Edwards’ pregame introduction, then they’re just not paying attention.

Orange Watch: Memories of Syracuse basketball captured in new Big East book - The Juice Online (the juice; Bierman)
Item: Longtime college hoops writer Dana O’Neil released a captivating look at the 40-year-old plus conference this week in a book entitled, “The Big East, Inside the Most Entertaining and Influential Conference in College Basketball History.” For Syracuse and college basketball fans, the 252-pages make for a quick read.
We’ve known Dana O’Neil as a media colleague for the majority of her career, from when she first made her mark covering college hoops for the Philadelphia Daily News beginning in 1990, around the same time we relocated from Syracuse to the Philly suburbs. She’s also been a guest on The Juice podcast hosted by our managing editor Wes Cheng.
Dana currently lives with her family some 30 minutes from us in Newtown, Pa., and her husband George is a longtime member of the Princeton University athletic training staff in our hometown of Princeton, N.J. where we rooted for Tiger teams while growing up in decades far removed.
We’ve also been close personal friends with Dennis Brogan for almost 40-years, beginning when we both worked in Syracuse radio in the 1980s as he quickly rose to national fame as the Dome Ranger, and to this day we talk several times a month.
So, it was fantastic to read Dana’s accounts of Dennis’s exploits after she talked with him extensively in 2020 about the birth of the Dome Ranger and his longtime antagonizing of the rival Georgetown Hoyas, and in particular John Thompson, Jr.
The Big East: Inside the Most Entertaining and Influential Conference in College Basketball History
One of Dennis’s most treasured possessions from his masquerading years, and its acquisition is spotlighted in the book, is the signature white towel bearing a John Thompson inscription and signature that Thompson gave him at the end of his full-time ‘Ranger’ career in 1990.

Jimmy Boeheim shines in Syracuse basketball debut (cnycentral.com)
In his first regular-season game playing for his father and with his brother, Jimmy Boeheim delivered a double-digit debut for the Syracuse men's basketball team.
The older Boeheim brother scored 18 points, the same game total as Buddy, in the Orange's 97-63 win over Lafayette in the Carrier Dome Tuesday night.
This was the first time Hall of Fame Head Coach Jim Boeheim had both of his sons in an Orange uniform for a regular-season game.
"He had a real good night tonight, I'm happy for him," Coach Boeheim said during a post-game news conference.

Jimmy Jr. is using his extra year of NCAA eligibility to play for Syracuse. He started for the Orange and scored the team's first 8 points, much to the crowd's delight.
Junior point guard Joe Girard, III led all scorers on the Orange with 20 points. He was 5-5 from beyond the 3-point line.
The Orange move to 1-0, next hosting Drexel at the Carrier Dome on Sunday, Nov. 14.

John Bol Ajak on that weird 3-point attempt and his return to the game after ankle issues (PS; Ditota)
John Bol Ajak plunged his right leg in a pail of ice, submerging his sore, slightly swollen ankle.
The Syracuse forward had just played 7 minutes and 20 seconds of basketball in the Carrier Dome, his Orange having dismissed Lafayette 97-63 in the season opener for both teams.
Ajak missed both Syracuse exhibitions because of that ankle. It’s been a nagging, enduring sore spot.
“I had hurt it in the summer, probably before we started practice. I did rehab. I was good. And then we started playing,” he said. “Orange vs White, I tweaked it a little a little bit. And then again, the day before the first preseason (game), I tweaked it again. I tried to go during the warmups but I just couldn’t go. So I’ve been really nursing it.”
The first inkling of his return happened earlier Tuesday evening, when he walked onto the floor wearing his uniform shorts, a warmup top and a white headband. (He offered assurances Tuesday night that the headband is here to stay.)
Ajak limbered up, took a few shots, bounced around a bit and seemed like a full go.

Syracuse Basketball: Rebounding solid, transition defense needs work (itlh; Adler)
Rebounding is always a hot-button topic for Syracuse basketball fans, and it’s no secret that the Orange has sometimes struggled on the boards in recent years.
In the two recent exhibition wins for the ‘Cuse, over Pace and then Le Moyne, Syracuse basketball didn’t look altogether great on the glass.
Now, with four new players – three transfers and one freshman – it’s understandable that it could take some time for the Orange roster to gel as a cohesive unit within the team’s trademark 2-3 zone.
It’s a tiny sample size, but when Syracuse basketball crushed Patriot League member Lafayette, 97-63, in the 2021-22 season opener on Tuesday night in Central New York, the ‘Cuse did some fairly positive things on the glass, albeit against an opponent that isn’t quite as big or lengthy as others that the Orange will encounter in the near future.
Syracuse basketball looked good on the boards but has work to do in other areas.
According to statistics posted on ESPN’s Web site, the ‘Cuse held a 48-30 overall advantage in the rebounding department versus Lafayette.
On the defensive glass, Syracuse basketball led 37-22, and on the offensive boards, the Orange had an 11-8 edge. Considering that the ‘Cuse shot lights-out in its conquest, and the Leopards struggled from the field, for the Orange to have more offensive rebounds than Lafayette was impressive, in my opinion.
Senior forward Cole Swider, a Villanova transfer, paced Syracuse basketball with a dozen boards. Graduate student forward Jimmy Boeheim, a Cornell transfer, and sophomore center Frank Anselem each chipped in with five rebounds.
And in an encouraging sign, the Orange’s three primary guards tallied a total of 10 boards, something that head coach Jim Boeheim said pleased him during his post-game press conference.

As we pondered what the cover of our Syracuse basketball season preview issue should look like, the subjects became pretty obvious.
The unique father-son-son combination of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and his sons, Jimmy and Buddy, had to the theme.
But how to depict the Boeheims? The answer came from the past and a photo shoot that took place years earlier.
The Boeheim boys had grown up playing on a plastic Little Tikes basketball goal in the family’s playroom. During a photo shoot at the Boeheim house, syracuse.com photographer Dennis Nett captured several images of the boys and their parents, including one of Buddy tossing a toy ball through the basket.
So the decision was made to return to the Boeheim home and photograph Buddy and Jimmy, all grown up and in their Syracuse uniforms, along with their father and a Little Tikes goal.
Syracuse.com photojournalist Scott Trimble assisted in the shoot and took behind-the-scenes video of the production.
Syracuse Basketball: Jimmy Boeheim, in SU debut, flat-out phenomenal (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball graduate student forward Jimmy Boeheim played his first official college game in more than 600 days on Tuesday night inside the Carrier Dome.
Not only was this his first collegiate contest in a long time, but it also proved his debut encounter suiting up for the Orange. The 6-foot-8 Boeheim, a transfer from Cornell, certainly didn’t disappoint.
In fact, Boeheim was simply spectacular in helping lead the ‘Cuse to a 97-63 conquest of Patriot League member Lafayette in front of close to 20,000 fans on the Hill.
Per statistics provided by Syracuse.com, Boeheim played 25 minutes. He scored 18 points on 8-of-9 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Boeheim chipped in five boards and one steal, although he did have three turnovers.

A season ago, amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Ivy League canceled its 2020-21 stanza. Boeheim graduated from Cornell and elected to transfer to the Orange, so that he could compete alongside his younger brother, senior shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, while playing for their father, legendary head coach Jim Boeheim.

Syracuse men's basketball officially lands 3 on signing day: Chris Bunch, Justin Taylor, Quadir Copeland (247sports.com; Bailey)
Syracuse men's basketball officially added three players on the first day of the early signing period. Forward Chris Bunch, wing Justin Taylor, and guard Quadir Copeland all inked with the Orange on Wednesday after previously committing to the program.
The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Bunch is rated four stars and the No. 71 overall prospect in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite. He chose the Orange three weeks ago over other finalists Rutgers and Washington. A senior at Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah, Bunch took official visits to all three of his finalists -- including two to Central New York. He also received scholarship opportunities from Maryland, Ole Miss, San Diego State, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Creighton and Seton Hall, among others.
"The big thing that sticks out to me about their program is Jim Boeheim," Bunch said of Syracuse previously. "The greats he has coached and the history of great scoring wings coming out of there is their pitch for me. They want me to come in to have an immediate impact."
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Taylor is rated four stars and the No. 73 overall prospect this cycle. He pledged to the Orange in June after narrowing his options down to include only SU, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Indiana. Taylor, a Virginia native, transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he played his final season of college ball with Syracuse's third signee of the day.
The 6-foot-6, 175-pound Copeland is rated three stars and the No. 147 overall prospect this cycle. He picked Syracuse in August after a lengthy pitch for him to come in and play point guard in Central New York. Copeland, who transferred to IMG Academy from Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J., was also considering Oklahoma State, Oregon, La Salle, DePaul, Miami, Maryland and Penn State.
"They believe I can come in and run the one and help their team a lot and help them win a national championship," Copeland previously told 247Sports.
Syracuse has two other Class of 2022 prospects committed in three-star forward Maliq Brown and three-star forward/center Peter Carey. High school seniors can sign early up until next Wednesday. Then players cannot sign binding national letters of intent until April 13.

College men's basketball: Girard shows off progress as Syracuse dispatches Lafayette in opener (nny360.com; St Croix)
Joe Girard III wasted no time displaying his development at point guard to lift the Syracuse University men's basketball team to a victory in its season opener Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome.
Girard III scored a team-high 20 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 mark on 3-point field goals, and delivered seven assists to lead five players in double figures and help the Orange beat the Lafayette Leopards, 97-63, in front of 19,929 fans.
Brothers Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim scored 18 points apiece in their first game as college teammates to help the Orange tip off the 46th season as head coach for their dad, Jim Boeheim, with a victory.
Syracuse will next host Drexel in another nonconference game at 5 p.m. Sunday in the same location.
Girard III went 6-for-9 from the field overall and played just 24 minutes in the easy win. He scored 15 in the first half to push SU to a 52-30 advantage at the break and hit a step-back from behind the arc with 12 minutes left before exiting to an ovation.
"He was good, he wasn't scoring early but he was getting the ball in the right situations," SU coach Jim Boeheim said. "It takes a guy who was primarily a scorer in high school to becoming a point guard, it's been a journey learning some things, but he's a really good point guard and he gives you a threat that he can make shots."

Syracuse basketball in mix for 5-star prospect, nation’s No. 1 point guard (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball only recently started making scholarship offers in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and one of its latest ones is a big-time offer.
According to recruiting services and media reports, including a tweet from Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater, the Orange coaching staff has offered five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau from New Jersey.
The 6-foot-1 Cadeau, one of the top players in his class, is a sophomore at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J. He recently tweeted out that he has officially made Sweden’s men’s national team, which is mighty impressive.
Given his national rankings, which we will explore in a second, it’s no surprise that a bunch of high-major programs already have either offered him, or are showing interest in Cadeau.
Syracuse basketball has jumped into the fray for five-star Elliot Cadeau.
Let’s take a look at Cadeau’s recruitment at this juncture. According to media reports, recruiting Web sites and Cadeau’s own Twitter page, he holds about a dozen offers for the time being, from college squads such as Seton Hall, Providence, St. John’s, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, TCU, UMass, Howard and Siena.
Additionally, I’ve seen some tweets from national analysts and recruiting insiders that suggest Cadeau is garnering interest from teams including Virginia, Connecticut, Rutgers and Wake Forest.

Onondaga County rolls out new round of double-your-money restaurant gift cards (PS; Cazentre)
An Onondaga County-subsidized restaurant gift certificate program aimed at boosting the struggling dining industry is headed for its second round this year.
Keeping It Local offers a limited number of vouchers that can be redeemed with a purchase of gift certificates at participating restaurants. The county-funded vouchers, which can be downloaded starting Thursday at no cost to the consumer, double the value of the gift cards up to $100 each.
So, for example, spending $50 of your own money along with the voucher gets you a $100 gift card.
“It’s important that we continue to do what we can to offer assistance to our restaurants which are vital part of our local economy,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said. He noted that restaurants suffered serious losses during the initial phases of the pandemic in 2020 and are still facing challenges including staffing issues and supply chain back-ups.
The new round will issue $400,000 worth of vouchers, McMahon said. That is meant to encourage spending at local restaurants.
Vouchers in the $500,000 first phase of Keeping It Local ran out in less than five hours last April. A second round, using funds leftover from unredeemed vouchers in the first round, launched in June.
There were 175 participating restaurants in the first round, but some dropped out for the June re-launch. McMahon estimated there are about 100 restaurants currently signed on to the program. Restaurants can opt in or out of the program until Wednesday.
The vouchers are redeemable at locally owned, independent restaurants, not chains.
This round of the program launches to the public at noon on Thursday, Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day. There will be four vouchers available per email (person) starting then. The vouchers must be redeemed at restaurants by Dec, 12, but there is no expiration date on the resulting gift cards.

Syracuse Basketball: Rebounding solid, transition defense needs work (itlh; Adler)
Rebounding is always a hot-button topic for Syracuse basketball fans, and it’s no secret that the Orange has sometimes struggled on the boards in recent years.
In the two recent exhibition wins for the ‘Cuse, over Pace and then Le Moyne, Syracuse basketball didn’t look altogether great on the glass.
Now, with four new players – three transfers and one freshman – it’s understandable that it could take some time for the Orange roster to gel as a cohesive unit within the team’s trademark 2-3 zone.
It’s a tiny sample size, but when Syracuse basketball crushed Patriot League member Lafayette, 97-63, in the 2021-22 season opener on Tuesday night in Central New York, the ‘Cuse did some fairly positive things on the glass, albeit against an opponent that isn’t quite as big or lengthy as others that the Orange will encounter in the near future.
Syracuse basketball looked good on the boards but has work to do in other areas.
According to statistics posted on ESPN’s Web site, the ‘Cuse held a 48-30 overall advantage in the rebounding department versus Lafayette.
On the defensive glass, Syracuse basketball led 37-22, and on the offensive boards, the Orange had an 11-8 edge. Considering that the ‘Cuse shot lights-out in its conquest, and the Leopards struggled from the field, for the Orange to have more offensive rebounds than Lafayette was impressive, in my opinion.
Senior forward Cole Swider, a Villanova transfer, paced Syracuse basketball with a dozen boards. Graduate student forward Jimmy Boeheim, a Cornell transfer, and sophomore center Frank Anselem each chipped in with five rebounds.
And in an encouraging sign, the Orange’s three primary guards tallied a total of 10 boards, something that head coach Jim Boeheim said pleased him during his post-game press conference.

As we pondered what the cover of our Syracuse basketball season preview issue should look like, the subjects became pretty obvious.
The unique father-son-son combination of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and his sons, Jimmy and Buddy, had to the theme.
But how to depict the Boeheims? The answer came from the past and a photo shoot that took place years earlier.
The Boeheim boys had grown up playing on a plastic Little Tikes basketball goal in the family’s playroom. During a photo shoot at the Boeheim house, syracuse.com photographer Dennis Nett captured several images of the boys and their parents, including one of Buddy tossing a toy ball through the basket.
So the decision was made to return to the Boeheim home and photograph Buddy and Jimmy, all grown up and in their Syracuse uniforms, along with their father and a Little Tikes goal.

Syracuse Basketball: Jimmy Boeheim, in SU debut, flat-out phenomenal (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball graduate student forward Jimmy Boeheim played his first official college game in more than 600 days on Tuesday night inside the Carrier Dome.
Not only was this his first collegiate contest in a long time, but it also proved his debut encounter suiting up for the Orange. The 6-foot-8 Boeheim, a transfer from Cornell, certainly didn’t disappoint.
In fact, Boeheim was simply spectacular in helping lead the ‘Cuse to a 97-63 conquest of Patriot League member Lafayette in front of close to 20,000 fans on the Hill.
Per statistics provided by Syracuse.com, Boeheim played 25 minutes. He scored 18 points on 8-of-9 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Boeheim chipped in five boards and one steal, although he did have three turnovers.

A season ago, amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Ivy League canceled its 2020-21 stanza. Boeheim graduated from Cornell and elected to transfer to the Orange, so that he could compete alongside his younger brother, senior shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, while playing for their father, legendary head coach Jim Boeheim.

Syracuse men's basketball officially lands 3 on signing day: Chris Bunch, Justin Taylor, Quadir Copeland (247sports.com; Bailey)
Syracuse men's basketball officially added three players on the first day of the early signing period. Forward Chris Bunch, wing Justin Taylor, and guard Quadir Copeland all inked with the Orange on Wednesday after previously committing to the program.
The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Bunch is rated four stars and the No. 71 overall prospect in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite. He chose the Orange three weeks ago over other finalists Rutgers and Washington. A senior at Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah, Bunch took official visits to all three of his finalists -- including two to Central New York. He also received scholarship opportunities from Maryland, Ole Miss, San Diego State, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Creighton and Seton Hall, among others.
"The big thing that sticks out to me about their program is Jim Boeheim," Bunch said of Syracuse previously. "The greats he has coached and the history of great scoring wings coming out of there is their pitch for me. They want me to come in to have an immediate impact."
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Taylor is rated four stars and the No. 73 overall prospect this cycle. He pledged to the Orange in June after narrowing his options down to include only SU, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Indiana. Taylor, a Virginia native, transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he played his final season of college ball with Syracuse's third signee of the day.
The 6-foot-6, 175-pound Copeland is rated three stars and the No. 147 overall prospect this cycle. He picked Syracuse in August after a lengthy pitch for him to come in and play point guard in Central New York. Copeland, who transferred to IMG Academy from Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J., was also considering Oklahoma State, Oregon, La Salle, DePaul, Miami, Maryland and Penn State.
"They believe I can come in and run the one and help their team a lot and help them win a national championship," Copeland previously told 247Sports.
Syracuse has two other Class of 2022 prospects committed in three-star forward Maliq Brown and three-star forward/center Peter Carey. High school seniors can sign early up until next Wednesday. Then players cannot sign binding national letters of intent until April 13.

College men's basketball: Girard shows off progress as Syracuse dispatches Lafayette in opener (nny360.com; St Croix)
Joe Girard III wasted no time displaying his development at point guard to lift the Syracuse University men's basketball team to a victory in its season opener Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome.
Girard III scored a team-high 20 points, including a perfect 5-for-5 mark on 3-point field goals, and delivered seven assists to lead five players in double figures and help the Orange beat the Lafayette Leopards, 97-63, in front of 19,929 fans.
Brothers Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim scored 18 points apiece in their first game as college teammates to help the Orange tip off the 46th season as head coach for their dad, Jim Boeheim, with a victory.
Syracuse will next host Drexel in another nonconference game at 5 p.m. Sunday in the same location.
Girard III went 6-for-9 from the field overall and played just 24 minutes in the easy win. He scored 15 in the first half to push SU to a 52-30 advantage at the break and hit a step-back from behind the arc with 12 minutes left before exiting to an ovation.
"He was good, he wasn't scoring early but he was getting the ball in the right situations," SU coach Jim Boeheim said. "It takes a guy who was primarily a scorer in high school to becoming a point guard, it's been a journey learning some things, but he's a really good point guard and he gives you a threat that he can make shots."

Syracuse basketball in mix for 5-star prospect, nation’s No. 1 point guard (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball only recently started making scholarship offers in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and one of its latest ones is a big-time offer.
According to recruiting services and media reports, including a tweet from Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater, the Orange coaching staff has offered five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau from New Jersey.
The 6-foot-1 Cadeau, one of the top players in his class, is a sophomore at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J. He recently tweeted out that he has officially made Sweden’s men’s national team, which is mighty impressive.
Given his national rankings, which we will explore in a second, it’s no surprise that a bunch of high-major programs already have either offered him, or are showing interest in Cadeau.
Syracuse basketball has jumped into the fray for five-star Elliot Cadeau.
Let’s take a look at Cadeau’s recruitment at this juncture. According to media reports, recruiting Web sites and Cadeau’s own Twitter page, he holds about a dozen offers for the time being, from college squads such as Seton Hall, Providence, St. John’s, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, TCU, UMass, Howard and Siena.
Additionally, I’ve seen some tweets from national analysts and recruiting insiders that suggest Cadeau is garnering interest from teams including Virginia, Connecticut, Rutgers and Wake Forest.

Onondaga County rolls out new round of double-your-money restaurant gift cards (PS; Cazentre)
An Onondaga County-subsidized restaurant gift certificate program aimed at boosting the struggling dining industry is headed for its second round this year.
Keeping It Local offers a limited number of vouchers that can be redeemed with a purchase of gift certificates at participating restaurants. The county-funded vouchers, which can be downloaded starting Thursday at no cost to the consumer, double the value of the gift cards up to $100 each.
So, for example, spending $50 of your own money along with the voucher gets you a $100 gift card.
“It’s important that we continue to do what we can to offer assistance to our restaurants which are vital part of our local economy,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said. He noted that restaurants suffered serious losses during the initial phases of the pandemic in 2020 and are still facing challenges including staffing issues and supply chain back-ups.
The new round will issue $400,000 worth of vouchers, McMahon said. That is meant to encourage spending at local restaurants.
Vouchers in the $500,000 first phase of Keeping It Local ran out in less than five hours last April. A second round, using funds leftover from unredeemed vouchers in the first round, launched in June.
There were 175 participating restaurants in the first round, but some dropped out for the June re-launch. McMahon estimated there are about 100 restaurants currently signed on to the program. Restaurants can opt in or out of the program until Wednesday.
The vouchers are redeemable at locally owned, independent restaurants, not chains.
This round of the program launches to the public at noon on Thursday, Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day. There will be four vouchers available per email (person) starting then. The vouchers must be redeemed at restaurants by Dec, 12, but there is no expiration date on the resulting gift cards.
