Welcome to National Bundt Day!
The simple and elegant Bundt cakes were developed when the company Nordic Ware decided to introduce a new type of cake pan based on a type of European cake.
Rose Joshua and Fanni Schanfield, members of the Hadassah Society, approached the founders of Nordic Ware H. Davey Dalquist and Mark S. Dalquist. They were hoping that Nordic Ware could produce a pan for the traditional Gugelhupf cake. The founders agreed and produced a small run of these brand new ‘Bundt’ pans with the ‘t’ added for marketing.
The first run sold very poorly and the company considered discontinuing the range. Eventually, it was mentioned in ‘The New Good Housekeeping’ and started picking up in popularity.
The Bundt pan shot to popularity after Ella Helfrich won the Pillsbury bake-off with her ‘Tunnel of Fudge’ baked in a Bundt pan. When Ella won the bake-off, Pillsbury ended up with more than 200,000 requests for Bundt pans. Eventually, the pans surpassed the Jello-O molds to become the most sold molds in the country.
National Bundt Day was designated to celebrate 60 years of the popularity of Bundt pans. Pillsbury even licensed the name so they could sell special Bundt pancake mixes.

Dragon Slayers: SU defeats Drexel 75-60 (Brent Axe recap) (PS; $; Axe)
The first tale of two halves came in Syracuse basketball’s second game of the season.
The Orange trailed 33-32 at halftime to the Drexel Dragons on Sunday night at the Carrier Dome.
The first-half numbers were a dead heat. Syracuse shot 13-of-27 (48.1%). Drexel was 13-of-28 (46.4%).
The second half was a different story.
Syracuse shot 63% from the field (17-of-27) while Drexel was just 9-of-24 (37.5%) and the Orange went on to a 75-60 win over the Dragons.
“Drexel is a really well-coached team. They move the ball well,” Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. “I thought we had a very good second half of basketball. Our defense was very strong, and they created a lot of turnovers.”

Boeheim was 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Not exactly earth-shattering news to report, either.
What is noteworthy about Boeheim’s performance is how much he had to work in other areas of the court to get to his game-leading tally.

Second half surge propels Syracuse men’s basketball over Drexel 75-60 (thenewshouse.com; Ostrowski)
What started as a close game turned into a convincing win, as Syracuse Men’s Basketball took down Drexel 75-60 to move to 2-0 on the young season.
Buddy Boeheim led the Orange with 23 points, his brother Jimmy backed him up with 14 of his own, and the SU defense overcame a rocky start against the free-shooting Dragons.
Although Jimmy and his brother have been stealing the show so far, he pointed out that by no means is this only a 2-man effort.
“It’s a whole team. We had a lot of guys that can score,” Jimmy said. “(It’s) going to be like that every single night.”

Syracuse’s second game of the season was a tale of two halves. In the first, the Orange came out a bit flat and struggled to defend Drexel’s pinpoint passing game. The Dragons focused heavily on setting up three-point attempts: they actually had more shots from outside the arc (17) than they did inside it (11) during the first half. Mate Okros was the top scorer for Drexel, netting 11 of their first 14 points and 16 in total.
“They’re really, really well-coached,” head coach Jim Boeheim said. “They really move the ball. (In the) first half, we gave them too many open looks.”
The Orange were down 33-32 at halftime but came out of the locker room with aggression. Cole Swider and Joe Girard III each made three’s as part of an 8-0 run. Both players finished with 11 points on the night.
Girard has been a perfect 8-of-8 on 3-point attempts to start the year, something he sounded relieved about after the game.
“I mean, it’s great,” Girard said. “I’ve got to get my feet down on me to make good shots. I’ve been working on that – hopefully, it lets us keep moving forward and get some more.”

Buddy Boeheim scored 23 points and older brother Jimmy Boeheim added 14 as Syracuse pulled away in the second half to beat Drexel, 75-60, on Sunday.
Cole Swider and Joe Girard III each scored 11 points for Syracuse (2-0). Girard made three three-pointers and had five assists and three steals and Swider added five rebounds, four assists, and five steals.
Drexel (1-1), an NCAA Tournament team out of the Colonial Athletic Association last season, led 33-32 at halftime but Buddy Boeheim assisted on three-pointers by Swider and Girard — who is 8 for 8 from behind the arc this season — and the found Jimmy Boeheim for a jumper in an 8-0 run to open the second half and Syracuse led the rest of the way.
Mate Okros made 6 of 9 from the field, including four threes, and scored 16 points for Drexel and Camren Wynter had 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Syracuse shot 63% in the second half while flustering the Drexel offense, running shooters off their spots with Jesse Edwards protecting the rim. The 6-foot-11 center had a career-high four blocks to go along with eight points on 4-of-4 shooting and four rebounds.
Syracuse had 15 steals and scored 25 points off 20 Dragons turnovers and outscored Drexel 40-16 in the paint.

Syracuse Basketball: Swarming 2nd-half defense a great sign, ignites win (itlh; Adler)
The majority of buzz surrounding Syracuse basketball ahead of the 2021-22 campaign is that the Orange would prove a tremendous shooting team from the perimeter, but the main question marks could be a perceived lack of athleticism and a 2-3 zone defense that might have some struggles.
We’re only two games into the current stanza, with a lot of basketball left to play, but it sure was exciting to see the ‘Cuse defense locked in after intermission against a good Drexel team on Sunday night from the Carrier Dome.
After burying seven 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes, the Dragons only made a couple more from deep in the second half. Syracuse basketball defenders were active, assertive and energized following the break, and the Orange managed to pull away for a 75-60 conquest of Drexel.
Then Syracuse basketball went cold from the field, not scoring for several minutes. That enabled Drexel to eventually build an edge of six points, at 31-25.

ACC Roundup - Florida State Upset And Really It’s No Surprise (DBR; King)
Three games Sunday as Syracuse took out Drexel, BC knocked off Fairfield and Florida upset FSU.
We forgot that Keyontae Johnson had collapsed last year at Tallahassee or rather forgot where he collapsed.
Not that he had.
Florida had lost like eight straight to FSU and with the additional emotional impetus of Johnson’s anniversary maybe it’s not a surprise.
The Gators really dominated the second half, leading by as much as 19. That’s one you’re probably better to just let go. One of those things.
In Boeheim Land, Buddy had 23 while Jimmy had 14. Center Jesse Edwards, who had his moments last year, had four blocks.
And in Beantown - stop the presses! - BC is now 3-0. Last year the Eagles started 1-5. Moreover, all three wins are by double digits.
On Sunday, Boston College led from wire to wire. The brothers, Makai Ashton-Langford and Demarr Langford, scored 17 and 16 points respectively.
It’s still early but so far, Earl Grant seems to be doing a solid job of getting a new culture installed.
Understandably, he hasn’t played a challenging schedule but Rhode Island, Utah, South Florida, Notre Dame and Saint Louis are on deck.
On Monday, Virginia Tech gets local opponent Radford, Clemson welcomes Bryant and Georgia Tech gets Lamar. Game of the night: Navy’s visit to Louisville.

CNY Beer Week returns with festivals, food pairings, new brews and more (PS; Cazentre)
If you like beer, you don’t really need an excuse to go out and grab one.
CNY Beer Week isn’t taking any chances. It’s offering dozens of events spread over seven days to convince you to get your hands on a local craft beer.
It starts with a Brunch Beer Pairing at Anything But Beer in downtown Syracuse on Sunday, Nov. 14. It ends with the New York Craft Brewers Festival at the Landmark Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 20.
In between you’ll find a cask ale fest at Syracuse’s Middle Ages Brewing Co.; taco and pizza pairings at downtown’s Talking Cursive Brewing; special releases at Branching Out Bottle Shop in Camillus and other events and promotions.
There are plenty of special beer releases and collaborations between breweries.
Plus, there’s the grand opening of the new Brewseum, a local brewing history project of the Onondaga Historical Association. It has a grand opening event on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at its home, Heritage Hill Brewhouse in Pompey.
The biggest single event of CNY Beer Week is the annual NY Craft Brewers Festival at the Landmark. It’s put on by the New York State Brewers Association.
This year, it features 55 breweries from across the state, with owners, brewers and other knowledgeable staffers pouring and discussing their beers, said NYSBA director Paul Leone. This year, due to ongoing restaurant issues, food will be available for purchase from a limited number of vendors, he said.
