Early dawn, late dusk. If you’ve been enjoying these enchantingly long, bright days, Tuesday is a day to savor. June 21 is the summer solstice, the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
The 2022 summer solstice arrives at 5:14 a.m. Eastern time. At this precise moment the sun appears directly over the Tropic of Cancer — as far north as it appears in the sky all year. Around the solstice, the sun’s northward movement in the sky appears to pause briefly before reversing direction for the next six months.
The sun traces its longest and highest path through the sky, and you can observe sunrise and sunset at its northernmost points along the horizon.

What can Syracuse men’s basketball take from this year’s NBA Finalists? (TNIAAM; Wall)
We know that college basketball coaches like to pull from what works in the NBA. We’ve seen more of the Syracuse Orange opponents adopt a five-out strategy to launch 3 after 3 against the zone. So if you’re a member of the Syracuse coaching staff, what can you pull for next year’s team from these two teams?
Jim Boeheim has come out and said he expects that the 22-23 Orange will need to lean on their defense to generate offense. He hinted that we may see some man-to-man defense and with a deeper and more athletic roster, he might want to borrow from Ime Udoka’s principles. The Celtics used their versatility to defend the perimeter and relied on Robert Williams’ rim protection to deter their opponents from venturing deep into the paint. Jesse Edwards doesn’t have Williams’ athleticism but a 7-footer in college can deter opponents by simply using his size and disrupting opponents. Edwards needs to control his fouls, especially those silly reaches or over the back ones which send him to the bench.
Will Boeheim use the more athletic freshmen class to implement some pressure defense in hopes of generating more transition offense? Can he get his player to commit to buying in on that end and forcing the ball to opponents’ weaker offensive threats? A lot of the Celtics post-season success was forcing teams out of their offense and getting up the floor to get clean looks and a Syracuse team which might lack shooting could benefit from this approach.

Syracuse men's basketball adds familiar foe Cornell to 2022-23 schedule (247sports.com; Bailey)
Syracuse men's basketball will look to continue a dominant run against an in-state opponent this winter when Cornell comes to the JMA Wireless Dome on Tuesday, Dec. 17. SU Athletics announced the addition of the contest to the Orange's 2022-23 schedule on Monday.
Syracuse is 95-31 all-time against the Big Red, its second-most common opponent in program history, including 41 straight victories (the latest being an 80-68 result last year). Cornell hasn't beaten SU since 1968 when the Big Red won 93-81 in Barton Hall.
The teams' first matchup came in 1901 -- an 18-15 for Syracuse in the second game of its program's existence.

Onondaga Lake Parkway to close Tuesday for Syracuse WorkForce Run (PS; Kirk)
The Onondaga Lake Parkway will be closed Tuesday as close to 2,000 runners participate in the Syracuse WorkForce Run.
The parkway will be closed from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., according to a news release from the organizers of the run.
Parking near the Onondaga Lake Park and in the Village of Liverpool will be scarce because of the run, organizers said.
A shuttle will run for participants and spectators that will go from the NBT Bank Stadium to the race route, organizers said. The shuttle will start at 4 p.m., take a brief pause from 6:05 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and then continue until 9:30 p.m., organizers said.
The run is a challenge between companies in the Syracuse area This year 1,964 employees have signed up, with the most participants from Syracuse University, organizers said.
Race organizers will be making donations in honor of participants to the Rescue Mission Alliance, organizers said.
