Welcome to Beautiful Day!
Beauty surrounds us. It is in music, pictures, flowers, people, and pretty much everything else. It is in the smallest and most mundane things we walk past on the street, and in Earth's most magnificent landforms. Today all things of beauty are celebrated. It is unclear who created the day or when they did so, but by doing it they truly did something beautiful.

4-star small forward Vaughn Karvala visits Syracuse basketball, picks up Orange offer (itlh; Adler)
Vaughn Karvala, a fast-rising prospect in the 2026 class from Wisconsin, visited Syracuse basketball this past weekend and has received a scholarship offer from the Orange staff, he disclosed via his X page.
The 6-foot-6 Karvala, a four-star small forward in the junior cycle, recently made one of the largest jumps around the country when recruiting service and media outlet On3 updated its 2026 rankings in early October, as he moved into the top 55 overall.
Karvala attends Oregon High School in Oregon, Wis. Last week, another Wisconsin product, three-star wing Aaron Womack of Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis., officially signed with the 'Cuse in its 2025 class, per SU Athletics.

From late April to late May, in the most recent AAU regular season, Karvala played at a high level for the 16U squad of the Milwaukee-based Team Herro in Nike's EYBL league. During that time, he averaged 13.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

How to watch Syracuse basketball versus Texas at Legends Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y. (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball has a perfect 3-0 record to start the 2024-25 season, although the Orange hasn't looked all that impressive, winning that trio of home games by a combined 15 points.
Now the 'Cuse, under second-year head coach Adrian Autry, is preparing to head to New York City for an early season tournament that will provide two challenging encounters for Syracuse basketball. Up first, the Orange will take on new Southeastern Conference member Texas this Thursday night in the 2024 Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
In its most recent non-conference affair, the 'Cuse snuck by Horizon League member Youngstown State this past Saturday, 104-95 in double overtime, from the JMA Wireless Dome in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Junior guard J.J. Starling tallied a career-high 38 points, while Syracuse basketball held sizable advantages over the Penguins in rebounding and paint points. Still, the Orange mightily struggled from beyond the arc, and needing two overtimes to defeat Youngstown State was at least a little concerning.

The Orange and the Longhorns (3-1) will square off on Thursday, Nov. 21, beginning at 7:00 pm and with television coverage on ESPN2. The next day, on November 22, the 'Cuse will play either Saint Joseph's or Texas Tech.

Syracuse men’s basketball: landing Kiyan Anthony goes beyond the player and on-court product for the Orange (TNIAAM; Chiappone)
Syracuse Orange fans had to sweat out some close wins this past weekend, as the football team defeated the Golden Bears agenda and men’s basketball survived Youngstown State in double overtime. Just before all that insanity played out, Orange fans received some much anticipated and relieving news about one of the highest profile recruits in the country.
Kiyan Anthony, the son of Syracuse MBB legend Carmelo Anthony, finalized his commitment to join the Orange starting in the 2025-26 season. Anthony ranks as a consensus top-50 class of 2025 prospect and joins a loaded recruitment class coming in next year.
Many fans will point to Anthony picking the Orange being great for a bunch of reasons, namely the Syracuse legacy he can follow with his dad or how good of a prospect he is in the context of his class. Take a step back, however, and there is a bigger, broader and important narrative at play: getting Kiyan does more for the Orange and SU Athletics than just having him on the team or seeing if his potential can be fully unlocked.
One critical point that has to be addressed right off the bat is with Syracuse men’s basketball recruitment and contextualize just how successful the program has been these past two years under coach Adrian Autry compared to the final portion of Jim Boeheim’s long tenure with the team.

Kiyan Anthony's Impact on Syracuse Basketball (orangefizz.net; Horning)
Friday was a good day for everyone affiliated with Syracuse University. Kiyan Anthony’s commitment was not just a local story about the son of Carmelo Anthony following in his father’s footsteps; it was a national story involving a highly-respected figure in the world of basketball.
There’s something significant about Anthony choosing the cold, frigid winters of Central New York over the sunny, warm environment of Southern California with USC near the midst of Hollywood stars and near beautiful beaches.
First, let’s break down what Anthony can offer on the court. He is a 6’5” shooting guard, regarded as one of the best shooters in his class. Anthony is a four-star recruit and is ranked #32 in the Class of 2025, according to 247 Sports. He sits three spots behind Sadiq White, a 6’8” forward who is already committed to Syracuse. For perspective, Bronny James was a five-star recruit, but his situation with his father, LeBron, can be compared to the father-son duo of Carmelo and Kiyan.
Another plus for Syracuse is that Carmelo has insisted that Kiyan should avoid the one-and-done path to the NBA; instead, he wants him to focus on development. Therefore, it can be inferred that Anthony will be in the Dome for more than just one season.
Now, stepping aside from basketball, Anthony’s commitment brings national attention to Syracuse. Expect more national broadcasts when he steps foot on the SU campus, and his almost one million Instagram followers will only enhance that visibility.
The name, legacy, and recognition of Carmelo Anthony—after whom the SU basketball practice facility is named—will significantly and immediately help put Syracuse hoops back on the map in search of its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021.

Kiyan Anthony has set off a buzz in the basketball world after announcing his commitment to Syracuse. Several celebrities have celebrated the teenager's decision, with Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson joining the list earlier today.
Iverson shared the backcourt with Kiyan's father, 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony when they played together for the Denver Nuggets from 2006 to 2008. Although Iverson was in the latter stages of his career, he imparted valuable lessons to a young Anthony, who ultimately became a scoring machine with Denver and the New York Knicks.
Iverson took to Instagram earlier today to share a post celebrating Kiyan for choosing to play college basketball at his father's alma mater.
Anthony was grateful for Iverson's post, sharing a story on his own Instagram to appreciate his former teammate with a single word:

Syracuse native Pat Murphy wins NL Manager of the Year (PS; AP)
Eastwood Represent!
Milwaukee’s Pat Murphy — a Syracuse native and graduate of Christian Brothers Academy — won National League Manager of the Year on Tuesday after a stellar debut season with the Brewers, while Cleveland’s Stephen Vogt took the AL honors honor after leading the Guardians to 92 wins and a division title in his first year as a skipper at any level.
Murphy, 65, led the Brewers to an NL Central title, a 93-69 record and is the franchise’s first manager to earn the award since it was introduced in 1983. In the playoffs, Milwaukee lost to the New York Mets in a three-games Wild-Card Series.
Murphy had an unusual career path to big league success — he was a longtime college coach at Notre Dame and Arizona State before moving to the professional ranks in 2010. He worked in the Padres’ minor league system until 2015 when he was hired to be Milwaukee’s bench coach under Craig Counsell, who played for Murphy at Notre Dame.
After Counsell left for the Cubs during the offseason, the Brewers quickly turned to Murphy. The transition was nearly seamless.
